| 抄録 | US Air Force bombed the Manshu Iron & Steel Company (MISC) in Anshan five times in 1944. All these air raids were organized by the 20 th Air Force of the US based in Chengdu, Sichuang province, and two attacks among five left the MISC serious damages. The B 29, the Superfortress, which was newly developed in the US and distributed to the China theater in April of 1944, was mobilized in the operations. The damage of the MISC between July to November 1944 was quite heavy, and losses to assumed output became huge as follows; coke 46.5%, pig iron 50.2%, steel ingot 58.3, rolled steel 62.4%. Those damages were, however, quickly recovered to considerably high level by March of 1945, i.e. coke 93.8%, pig iron 99.1%, steel ingot 73.2%, rolled steel 98.3%. Even after the confiscation by the Russian Red Army, the coke sector resumed its production ability to over 88% by 1953. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the degree of the air raid damages, and to describe the reconstruction process of the coke sector, which was most seriously destroyed by those bombings. The report of the United States Strategic Bombing Survey and some unknown memoirs written by the ex-staff of the MISC are used as main sources. |

| 抄録 | Japanese companies that practice the Japanese style management have pursued scale merit profits by mass production of stand-alone goods and had stronger competitiveness than US companies in '80 s. US companies, especially, cannot follow the overlapping development practicing which the Japanese companies have started. In '90 s, however, US companies have begun the overlapping development practicing by using telecommunication and information technology, and furthermore they do it interorganizationally among firms. As the results, US firms have stronger competitiveness than Japanese firms in the high-tech fields of system goods industries. Japanese companies have to be divided into two groups. One is stand-alone goods industries in which they operate mass production as before. Another is system goods industries in which they must unlearn the past success experiences and have to promote new innovation system. At the same time, they need to change the strategy in global business in the case that they belong to system goods industries. In Global Industries, Bartlett and Ghoshal insist on the 'transnational solution', but it should be noted that their theory is based on the study of stand-alone goods industries. We believe that the virtual corporation has more competitiveness than the transnational organization in system goods industries. |

| 抄録 | In this paper we estimate the tenant benefits in public rental housing supplied by local government on the basis of the data for private housing as well as public housing. In the estimation we specify a Cobb-Douglas utility function defined by housing attributes and other goods, and present a new estimation form of Hicks equivalent variation taking into account implicit marginal prices of public housing. Our work recognizes that the unit cost of housing is different between private and public housings, which is not identified by previous studies. The proposed procedure in this paper requires the estimation of implicit marginal prices of public housing attributes and private housing attributes. We further analyze the relationship between benefits of public housing and subsidy for rent, defined as the difference between the market value of public housing and rent of public housing, and examine the distribution ofthe benefits by household characteristics. This study finds that the calculated benefits from the public housing were 10.0 percent of monthly income, and evidence that benefits are related to income. Our results provide the effectiveness of public rental housing for the lower income households. |

| 抄録 | This paper is aimed at outlining the final stage of the Chinese Civil War in northeast China. While the CCW ended in October, 1949, when Maozedong declared his final victory at the Tian-anmen square, the war in northeast China had already finished in November, 1948, eleven months earlier than Maozedong's speech. USSR supported Yan-an by prohibiting the Nationalist to use Port Arthur, and by delivering the weapons, which the Japanese army had left behind, to the Communist after the surrender of Japan. US kept giving huge financial and military aids to the Nationalist since the period of the WWII. Both super powers, however, forced their ideological partners to compromise with their rivals so often. USSR concluded the Sino-Russo Peace League Treaty with the Nationalist Government in August, 1945, believing the victory of the Nationalist, and made joint developing plans for the northeast with it. This treaty forbade USSR to assist the Communist. USSR also feared the deep commitment of US to the northeast. Because of these restrictions, USSR sometimes ordered the Communist to retreat from important cities. On the other hand, Yan-an's strong resistance against the Chongqing (Chungking) lead US to arbitrate between two Chinese parties, the Nationalist and the Communist. US feared the bankruptcy of the Nationalist Government and the collapse of the Chinese society, in order to prevent Chinese from accepting the Communist as a new leader. For these reasons, the process of the CCW became complicated in the second half of 1940 s. |

| 抄録 | 'Kibi Plateau City' had been planned in 1974 and its construction started in 1981. Construction plan is divided into two intervals. The former interval of the construction plan was completed in 1993. The latter interval, however, has been freezing due to the local financial crisis of Okayama Prefecture. This paper first reviews planning process of 'Kibi Plateau City' and picks up current problems by statistical data and articles of newspapers. Secondly, questionnaire is made up and implemented to residents. Finally, according to the results of the questionnaire an evaluation of 'Kibi Plateau City' is proposed. |

| 抄録 | This paper examines the effects of changes in the variance of income distribution on both capital accumulation and social welfare in Japan, the society with an aging population. To analyze the problem, we adopt a simulation approach for an extended life-cycle general equilibrium model of overlapping generations with continuous income distribution. The simulation results indicate that the changes in the variance affect economic variables under a progressive tax scheme but they do not under a proportional tax scheme. The results also show that social welfare greatly increases as the variance shrinks. Therefore, the recent shift in Japan, where the taxation system has tended in effect to become flat, may cause a significant damage to social welfare. |

| 抄録 | This paper is concerned with corporate ideologies and visions of topmanagements in the local small manufacturing industries. We assume that corporate ideologies are unchanging values and that visions of topmanagement evolve according to actual interaction. Further we assume that visions are both value and factual premises. The questionnaire survey is analyzed. The analyses imply the followings. (1) Even in the local small companies, visions of top-managements are important for corporate performance. (2) In high performance small companies of local area, visions of top-managements relate to corporate ideologies. (3) In the high performance small companies, when top-management want to challenge projecting strategies, the projecting strategies are related to visions of top-managements and corporate ideologies. (4) In the high performance small companies, visions of top-managements and corporate ideologies lead to flexibility modification, but in low performance small companies oflocal area, field levels lead to flexibility modification. |

| 抄録 | This paper examines the effects of a progressive labor income tax scheme and a progressive consumption tax scheme on capital stock and on intragenerational wealth distribution in Japan, the society with an aging population. To analyze the problem, we adopt a simulation approach for an extended life-cycle general equilibrium model of overlapping generations. As a progressive tax is likely to mitigate the inequality of resource distribution, it is crucial to allow for the existence of heterogeneous labor. This is incorporated by assuming that each cohort has three representative individuals with equal tastes but unequal annual labor endowments, corresponding to three income classes, namely, low, middle, and high income classes. As the simulation results indicate, a progressive labor income tax shrinks the inequality in the distribution of wealth, while a progressive consumption tax furthers slightly. |
