This is a copy of the map of Bicchu province produced by Okayama domain during the Shoho era (1644–48) for submission to the Shogunate government. The map was prepared pursuant to specific instructions given by the Shogunate government. Names of domain lords and their annual stipends are written in the margin in the upper right corner. Characters in the Japanese syllabary I-ro-ha (corresponding to a-b-c) are written next to the names of the domain lords to create a legend. On the map, the names of villages and their annual yields of rice are written inside ovals, along with I-ro-ha characters corresponding to the names of the relevant domain lords. |
