This map was prepared when Okayama domain hosted the Korean embassy. The map shows the houses in Ushimado and inns to accommodate Korean embassy representatives (three ambassadors and officials of various classes) as well as Lord So of Tsushima and senior priests of Iteian Zen Temple, who were accompanying the embassy. Next to the teahouse that hosted the three ambassadors is a notation saying “Shimono Shichisuke.” Since this is the name of the official responsible for hosting the embassy, we assume that the map was produced for receiving the embassy in 1711. |
