Description4 |
This is a drawing of batteries in Futtsu, for which Aizu domain was initially responsible. There is a note concerning the site for installing canons. Aizu domain was responsible for guarding the battery from 1847 to 1854, before Okayama domain assumed the responsibility. This drawing, with the inscription “in the charge of Aizu,” was probably prepared at the time of the transfer. Although canons were initially installed at the tip of a cape, because of the sand engulfing the battery compound it was relocated to a spot 20 ken (approx. 36.36 m) distant from the tip. |
