| 抄録 | The Measuring instrument of carbon dioxide concentration in seawater (pCO(2)) is developed. The instrument consists of an equilibrator, a non-dispersive infrared gas analyzer (NDIR), a carrier gas generator and a processing signal generator. The equilibrator has a cross section of 3 c㎡ and is 15 cm tall. The principle of pCO(2) measurement is based on the equilibration of a carrier gas phase with a seawater sample and subsequent determination of the carbon dioxide concentration in the carrier gas. The carrier gas circuit of the NDIR is opened to the atmosphere to maintain the carrier gas line at a barometric pressure. The present instrument can measure pCO(2) within the measuring error of about 2 ppm with sample water of about 180ml every 20 min. |

| 抄録 | Engineers have long sought the possibility of measuring parameters such as temperature and pressure continuously in the underground with high precision, high spatial resolution and high band width of parameters. Distributed fibre optic measurement offers the use of a very fast, robust, precise, light and small gauges with an high spatial resolution. In this paper we would like to compile fibre-optic measure-methods which are available now for projects in geohydraulical engineering. This paper will propose new problems for future research work on parameter identification for such parameters as conductivity and anisotropy. |

| 抄録 | Monodispersed porous polymer microspheres having diameter of ca. 50 μm were successfully prepared by suspension polymerization of styrene, polyoxyethylene methacrylate and ethylenegycol dimethacrylate. Monodispersed O/W emulsion was firstly made by SPG membrane emulsification technique, following droplets-swelling method of monodispersed seed emulsion by the addition of secondary emulsion. The effect of solvent used in suspension polymerization on porous structure of prepared polymer microspheres was investigated in this paper by identification with scanning electron microscopy, porosimeter and the performance in gel permeation chromatography. It was found that benzene, 1-butanol and butyl acetate worked as poor solvent for polymer prepared in this study and that polymer microspheres prepared with these solvents had larger pores. Gel permeation chromatography measurements indicates that polystyrene having molecular weight smaller than 50,000-100,000 can be clearly separated by using gel columns packed with polymer microspheres prepared with poor solvents. |

| 抄録 | We study a system obtained by coupling a nonlinear oscillator and a stationary system. We analyze the dynamics in a singular limit and show that asymptotically orbitally stable periodic solutions can exist. We also show how a slow oscillation can arise in the coupled system. |

| 抄録 | This paper describes a novel synthesis of trienes by treatment of trans-2-alkenyl triphenylphosphonium bromides with BuLi in THF solution. Compounds, 5,7,9-tetradecatriene, 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene, and 2,6,11,16-tetramethyl-2,6,8,10,14-hexadecapentaene were prepared in the yields of 40%, 9%, and 46%, respectively. Cross-coupling of trans-2-heptenyltriphenylphosphonium bromide and trans-3-phenyl-2-propenyltriphenylphosphonium bromide gave a mixture of 5,7,9-tetradecatriene (10.6%), 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (0.5%), and 1-phenyl-1,3,5-decatriene (9.4%). |

| 抄録 | An aspect of the cut-off phenomenon is reviewed. It is a sort of critical phenomenon observed in a wide variety of diffusion. We introduce a framework in which such a phenomenon can be understood and analyzed in a rigorous manner. We illustrate the mechanism with some concrete models. |

| 抄録 | A calculation method of probability of liquefaction is proposed in this paper. The spatial variability of soil parameters for the dynamic shear strength, i.e., N-values, median grain size, fines contents, and the statistical characteristics of the earthquake frequency are considered in the analysis. The standard penetration test (SPT) is convenient to estimate the spatial variability of the dynamic shear strength and mainly used in this study. Furthermore the determination of dynamic shear strength based on Swedish weight Sounding test also introduced here, because it is the simpler test than SPT. While the statistical model of the earthquake frequency is determined based on the record of historical earthquakes. Using this method the probability of liquefaction is calculated. The sand compaction pile method is considered for the ground improvement against the liquefaction. Finally, the relationship between the sand replacement rate and the probability of liquefaction is clarified. |

| 抄録 | This study examined population data on the quarters or sub-areas in Tottori city in 1960 and 1995. First, the distributions of population data in both years were drawn, then the population changes and the rates were explained. While large increaces and high growth rates were scattered in the suburbs of the city, large depopulation and high decreace rates were clustered in the old core in the built-up areas and rural areas in the hilly and mountainous areas. Second, the rates of population under 15 years old and the rates of population over 65 years old were analyzed. Finally, the age structure of population was examined with 10 samples of the quarters or sub-areas in anticipation. |

| 抄録 | Near source earthquakes can produce strong vertical ground motions with large amplitude and high frequency content. In this paper the axial ductility behavior of RC columns due to near source earthquakes is investigated. The column is simplified to a SDOF system that only describes vertical vibrations of a structural column. The gravity load effect is represented by a pre-load. An elasto-plastic model accounting for different stiffness and strength in tension and compression is used in the analysis. The ductility demand as well as pseudo acceleration spectra are evaluated. The investigation shows that strong vertical ground motions should be considered in seismic design. From the results of this investigation suggestions for a seismic design in case of near source earthquakes can be derived. |

| 抄録 | The release of histamine from basophils induced by anti-lgE and calcium ionophore A 23187 ( Cal) was examined in 27 patients with bronchial asthma and 7 healthy subjects, using a whole blood method. (1)The release of histamine induced by anti-IgE and CaI was significantly higher in atopic asthmatics than in non-atopic cases. (2) The histamine release with anti-lgE and CaI was significantly lower in cases with long-term steroid therapy compared to the release in cases without steroid therapy. (3) The release with anti-lgE and CaI was increased in cases with age of 0-39 years and in cases wpth age at onset of 0-39 years. (4) Anti-IgE induced release correlated to a certain extent with the release induced by CaI. These results show that basophil reactivity as expressed by histamine release changes under different conditions. |

| 抄録 | Binding energy of O1s core electron measured in XPS is a candidate to determine new scale of Lewis basicity of oxide ion in glass. Some mathematical expressions for the basicity or XPS chemical shift, such as charge parameter and optical basicity, are compared with experimental O1s binding energy in binary alkali oxide glasses. The expressions so far in use need some modification in parameters. A new empirical expression introduced in this paper gives new concept and universal scale of basicity. |

| 抄録 | Failures of railway embankments in Japan usually occur during rainfall period due to the rise of water level in the embankments. Laboratory experiments were carried out to elucidate the initiation of failure of embankment under the rise of water level. The changes in pore-water pressure were monitored during the rise of water table and at the initiation of failures. The experiment results showed that main failure of embankment was initiated by development of localized unstable area at the toe of the embankment models during the rise of water level. This indicates that failure of embankments was a consequence of instability of the toe of the slope induced by saturation process under drained condition. |

| 抄録 | In recent years, India has enjoyed economic prosperity that she had never experienced from the time on the independence. This article discusses dynamics of the automobile industry, one of the highest growth manufacturing sectors under the liberalization policy in the 1990s. After a brief historical explanation of the industry, the author describes corporate strategies of new comers, classified into three divisions; i.e. passenger car, commercial vehicle and two wheelers. Then he also analyze their distribution patterns from the view point of transport cost and Indian industrial location policy. The location of car assembly units in the 1990s tends to concentrate in greenfields on the outskirts of the existing agglomerations of the automobile industry. |

| 抄録 | Delaunay triangulation, a geometric subdivision of any convex domain, is often used as a finite element modeling method, but there are still several problems, which originally come from the characteristics of Delaunay triangulation. One problem appears when we remove some nodes which are already introduced for the triangulation. In this case we aim to obtain the triangulation without nodes by partial modification of the Delaunay triangulation with the node. Another problem occurs when tetrahedra with zero volume are generated by Delaunay triangulation. In this case they must be removed for the numerical analysis in order to guarantee the numerical stability and good numerical solutions. In this paper these two problems occuring at the use of Delaunay triangulation are theoretically discussed. |

| 抄録 | This paper discusses the shear strength and volume change characteristics of a loose Fraser River sand. Suction-controlled simple shear tests were carried out for the unsaturated sand. Drained tests for the saturated sand were also carried out for the comparison with the unsaturated sand. The increase of the shear strength of the sand with the matric suction is very small and there is almost no increase of that over 20 kPa of the matric suction. The suppression effect of the matric suction on the volume change bahavior during shear is small, and the degree of dilation increases with the increase of the matric suction. |

| 抄録 | The use of glass and plastic greenhouses have rapidly increased in recent years. Meteorological and soil moisture environments inside a greenhouse are significantly different from those in the open field. These differences should be understandable to establish accurate predictions of water consumption and evapotranspiraton inside a greenhouse which play impotrant roles in the design of any irrigation system. This study aims to estimate the micrometeorological conditions inside a watermelon plastic greenhouse which can be used for evapotranspiration calculations. Therefore, micrometeorological data were measured inside and outside the greenhouse for the comparison purposes. The results of this study may be summarized as : (1) Solar radiation inside the greenhouse was about 70% of that of outside it. (2) Net radiation during the daytime inside the greenhouse was almost the same as the absorbed total short-wave radiation. (3) The difference of air temperature inside and outside the greenhouse was very large during the daytime whereas not much difference was observed during the nighttime. (4) Both relative humidity and saturation deficit inside the greenhouse were higher than outside in case of highly vegetative land. (5) Wind speed inside the greenhouse was almost zero, while outside the average value was 1.8m/s. |
