Abstract Tibetan thangka refers to a genre of pictorial art widely produced across the Tibetan cultural region since the 11th century. Although scroll painting is its most common form, thangkas are also created through embroidery, appliqué, and brocade weaving. The subjects depicted encompass a wide range of themes within Tibetan Buddhism and the Bön religion, including various Buddhas, bodhisattvas, deities, monks, mandalas, as well as astronomical and medical knowledge. Within Tibetan religious beliefs, thangkas are not merely visual representations; they are venerated as supports of Buddha (Tib. sku rten), understood as physical embodiments of divine presence. At the same time, the creation and veneration of thangka constitute a rich aesthetic tradition in which artists repeatedly integrate realist elements into this sacred canvas.
This paper offers a micro anthropological examination (Tanaka 2005; 田中 2006) of the depiction of thangka as a practice oscillating between inscribing the canonical and drawing the real. Through critically engaging with the theory of agency of art (Gell 1998), and the analysis of writing and drawing (Ingold 2017), this study examines the dialectical relationship between rendering sacred images and depicting worldly reality, and how such practices unfold in the tension between prescriptive authority and embodied perception.

Title Alternative Theoretical Consideration of Creativity in Interactive Art Appreciation and Construction of an Analytical Framework
FullText URL oer_057_2_017_030.pdf

Abstract In this study, we theoretically examined the mechanism of creativity in interactive art appreciation and presented it as an analytical framework.
In interactive art appreciation, viewers engage in collaborative dialogue with the artwork and other viewers, and are influenced by the promotion of creativity and improvement of the quality of the dialogue through the intervention of facilitation. This introduces an otherness that is different from the self, which creates a deviation from existing interpretations. This discrepancy in interpretation brings about a conceptual shift in the viewer, resulting in the creation of a new theory; this newly created theory eventually becomes the existing theory, and once again a collaborative dialogue takes place, giving birth to a new theory.
In this cyclical process of creativity in interactive art appreciation, knowledge is created and accumulated, and existing knowledge is creatively destroyed to reconstruct new knowledge. Learning takes place through mutual learning mediated by intrinsic motivation, and eventually learning takes place to arrive at new interpretations, although sometimes learning support is handed over from the facilitator to the viewers. For viewers whose abilities to create meaning and grasp value are underdeveloped, interactive art appreciation helps to encourage this development, and it has the potential to have a ripple effect on development not only in art but also in the broader realm of everyday knowledge outside of art.

Abstract Pathogens or their components can induce long-lasting changes in the behavior of innate immune cells, a process analogous to “training” for future threats or environmental adaptation. However, such training can sometimes have unintended consequences, such as the development of autoimmunity. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic and heterogeneous autoimmune disease characterized by the production of autoantibodies and progressive organ damage. Innate immunity plays a central role in its pathogenesis, contributing through impaired clearance of apoptotic cells, excessive type I interferon production, and dysregulated formation of neutrophil extracellular traps. Recent studies have revealed that metabolites and nucleic acids derived from mitochondria, a crucial energy production site, directly regulate type I interferon and anti-inflammatory cytokine production. These insights have fueled interest in targeting metabolic pathways as a novel therapeutic approach for SLE, offering promise for improving long-term patient outcomes.

Abstract The status of postpartum depression was elucidated herein with the use of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) in women in Shikoku, Japan who became pregnant and gave birth after undergoing infertility treatment, including assisted reproductive technology (ART). The assessment was performed during their children’s 4-month health examination. The relationships between postpartum depression and the mothers’ background factors and scores on the Big Five personality traits scale were also examined. Of the Big Five personality traits, the scores for neuroticism were significantly higher in the ART group (n=71) than in the general infertility treatment (n=118) and natural pregnancy (n=872) groups. No significant differences in EPDS scores were seen among these three groups. A logistic regression analysis showed that neuroticism was associated with an EPDS score ≧9 points, (which is suggestive of postpartum depression, ) in all groups. Moreover, although a long-standing marriage had an inhibitory effect on postpartum depression in the natural pregnancy group, no such trend was seen in the ART group, which included many women with long-standing marriages. Particularly for women who become pregnant by ART, an individualized response that pays close attention to the woman’s personality traits is needed.

Abstract We developed a machine learning model for predicting prostate cancer (PCa) grades using radiomic features of magnetic resonance imaging. 112 patients diagnosed with PCa based on prostate biopsy between January 2014 and December 2021 were evaluated. Logistic regression was used to construct two prediction models, one using radiomic features and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) values (Radiomics model) and the other Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) scores and PSA values (PI-RADS model), to differentiate high-grade (Gleason score [GS] ≥ 8) from intermediate or low-grade (GS < 8) PCa. Five imaging features were selected for the Radiomics model using the Gini coefficient. Model performance was evaluated using AUC, sensitivity, and specificity. The models were compared by leave-one-out cross-validation with Ridge regularization. Furthermore, the Radiomics model was evaluated using the holdout method and represented by a nomogram. The AUC of the Radiomics and PI-RADS models differed significantly (0.799, 95% CI: 0.712-0.869; and 0.710, 95% CI: 0.617-0.792, respectively). Using holdout method, the Radiomics model yielded AUC of 0.778 (95% CI: 0.552-0.925), sensitivity of 0.769, and specificity of 0.778. It outperformed the PI-RADS model and could be useful in predicting PCa grades, potentially aiding in determining appropriate treatment approaches in PCa patients.
