Abstract This study dealt with the characteristics of hydrodynamics of Kojima Lake and the influence of a regional sewage treatment system in construction on the lake. Clockwise and anticlockwise circulations are caused by seasonal winds in summer and winter, respectively. The distribution of a conservative material continuously discharged off the shore of the sewage treatment plant is scarcely affected by seasonal winds and river discharges. The sewage treatment system improves the water quality of the lake except T-N.

Abstract This paper treats the convergence condition of the explicit finite element method (i.e. the time and spatial axes are discretized by using the explicit finite difference method and the weighted residual method, respectively) which is applied for analyzing the heat problem in region with complex boundary configuration and also with several material properties. The main role of this study is the application of the Brauer's theorem. As the results we obtain that the usage of the Brauer's theorem is valid and that the application method of the theorem is presented in this paper.

Abstract Aging and reversion in dilute Al-Ag alloys are studied by means of the measurements of electrical resistivity. Results obtained are as follows: 1) Increase in the as-quenched resistivity is found for a low quenching temperature. This increase may be due to the fluctuation of solute concentration at the quenching temperature. 2) When the fluctuation exists in the alloy, the aging rate becomes slow and the maximum resistivity in the isothermal aging curve becomes small as the vacancyconcentration becomes low. The maximum resistivity becomes large again when the vacancy concentration becomes further lower, and finally the maximum does not appear. 3) These behaviors are explained in terms of the difference in the rate of growth of the G.P. zones in the regions of higher and lower solute concentration induced by the fluctuation and in terms of the change of this difference with vacancy concentration. 4) G.P. zones may be formed by the spinodal decomposition with indefinite surfaces at first, grown to larger ones with difinite surfaces and changed to ordered nzones in the alloy. 5) It is confirmed that G.P. zones are formed by the nucleation-and-growth mechanism also in Al-Ag alloys above the spinodal temperature.

Abstract The effects of the fluctuation of solute concentration on the process of aging in Al-10wt % Zn alloy were studied by measurements of the intensity of small-angle X-ray scattering and by electron microscopy. Specimen was quenched from a higher temperature(T(Ql), mainly 300℃) to an intermediate temperature (T(Q2), 110~230℃), held there for a time, quenched again into iced water and aged isothermally at 0℃ or 40℃. Results obtained are as follows: (1) When the specimen was held at T(Q2) for a sufficient time and aged at relatively high temperatue(e.g. Ihr at 125℃ and aged at 40℃), a two-step increasing of both resistivity and integrated intensity was found. (2) Each of the steps has characteristics of the formation of G.P. zones by the spinodal decomposition. (3) When the maximum resistivity(p(max)) takes a minimum, Size distribution of the G.P. zones, estimated from the difference between Guinier and Porod radii, is much broader than that at p(max) in the usual direct quenching. (4) When the holding time at T(Q2) is long enough, the size distribution at p(max) is as broad as that at p(max) in the usual case. (5) After a prolonged aging under the condition that P(max) takes minimum, G.P. zones grow markedly and become oblate ellipsoidal with a major axis of about 20nm. (6) These results are consistently understood in terms of the fluctuation of solute concentration at T(Q2) and the change in the concentration of vacancies during annealing at T(Q2). That is, it is considered that these results are due to the difference in aging behavior between the regions of relatively high concentration and the ones of low concentration induced by the fluctuation.

Abstract A magic T-coupled two oscillators system having arbitrary amount of phase adjusting errors is studied both theoretically and experimentally. Denoting two independent phase parameters of the system measured from their optimum values as Δφ and Δψ, it is derived analytically that the optimum operation is possible in principle in a definite region of Δφ - Δψ plane, so we have a considerable amount of margin for phase adjusting error. Experimental result also confirms the existence of some phase error margin, though the measured magnitude of margin is smaller to some extent than the theoretical prediction.

Abstract Effect of the soft surface layer that was formed on low temperature aging of Al-Zn alloy on fatigue strength was studied under repeated tensile loading. Vickers microhardness test revealed that there existed less hardened region in the vicinity of grain boundary and surface, and that the region extends 50 to 100μm from the surface inward. From the plot of the stress amplitude against the number of cycles to failure, it is concluded that the presence of less hardened surface layer strengthens fatigue resistance of the age hardened Al-Zn alloys containing 8 to 16mass % Zn under the repeated tensile loading.

Abstract Multidimensional scaling (MDS) has been used in a wide variety of research fields; psychology, political science, anthropology, marketing research, urban and regional planning, and so on. In practical terms, MDS is a statistical method to make a picture of the information in the data. It enables us to examine the "hidden structure" of a set of data. When the set of data is large, MDS is extremely useful, since it is easier and more informative to look at a picture than the data themselves. In this paper, MDS is applied to the interregional migration data of Japanese regions for the years 1960-85. Findings show that the two-dimensional configuration of regions estimated by MDS generally corresponds with the geographical locations of regions, and the structure of interregional migration was very stable over the study years 1960-85. It is also suggested that MDS is a useful tool to identify the relationships between regions using the spatial interaction data.

Abstract Distributions of hydrogen gas concentration in a suddenly started, single shot hydrogen gas jet issuing from a 1 mm diameter injector into still air were measured using laser interferometry method. This unsteady, turbulent free jet flow has also been calculated using the two-equation, high Reynolds number version of k-ε turbulence model and hybrid scheme for treating combined diffusion and convection in the SIMPLE algorithm. The injection pressure was 0.5 MPa for which predicted and measured temporal jet tip penetration distributions indicate that the jet discharged into still air at Mach 0.25. The level of agreement between present prediction and measurement is good in some regions and poor in others.

Abstract This paper aims to examine the impact of JR (Japan Railways) Seto Ohashi Line on residential land value. First, the study examines the trends in land value in the area along JR Seto Ohashi Line by applying the area comparison method. The method estimates the effect of JR Seto Ohashi Line on residential land value by comparing land values between the study area and the Okayama Metropolitan Area. Second, the property value method is applied to measure the effect of railroad construction. The effect is estimated with a residential land-value regression, which is calibrated using land value data along the Seto Ohashi Line. Finally, the results are compared with the empirical studies in the Greater Tokyo Region, and various features of the impact of railroad construction on land value are identified.

Title Alternative Formative Process of Regional Concentration in a JapaneseWhaling Fishing Ground in the Edo Period : Analysis of the Particularity of the SaikaiWhaling Industry Area
FullText URL 40_4_049_072.pdf
Author Sueta, Tomoki|
Abstract The whaling industry in early modern Japan was the greatest fishery in Edo period. At the time, whaling was mainly conducted in four districts (i.e. Kishu, Tosa, Tyosyu, and Saikai). whaling industry was carried on by large−scaled industrial management object which was called “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)”. I have for my object to make the regional concentration process of the whaling fishing ground in Goto Han clear about a whaling industry in Goto Han who didn’t also aim so much in the Saikai area this time. That was separated 3 periods in an extended period from Enpo and a Genroku period to Bunsei and a Tenpo period here in particular, and a change and the development process of the “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)” in Goto Han were considered, also considering a relation with a financial problem of Goto Han. When saying a whaling industry in Saikai area in the Edo Period up to now, I was very strong in an image of an achievement of Fukazawagumi of Omura han and a big “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)” of 3, Nakao, Doi and Mastomi. On the other hand, activity of the Eguchi family of Arikawa village was learned about in Goto Han, too. But development of the “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)” of the former and the latter has been talked on separately without associating. But, the Saikai area “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)”which can have talked on individual “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)” management and its development process independently respectively up to now was intermingled in a whaling fishing ground of Goto Han actually by this analysis. Moreover it was revealed that habitat segregation was done by a fishing ground as for the latter period in the Edo Period. And when it was considered from a geographical side, regional centralization in a whaling fishing ground in Nishiumi area was seen, and moreover it was revealed that a differentiation phenomenon in a winter fishing ground and a fishing ground in spring has formed. It’s understood to be different from a whaling industry area of 3, other Kishu, Tosa and Nagasu from the thing. In other words, it was being enabled that management activity in fishing ground area of sea of a whaling industry in this Saikai area is formed beyond the Han. Development of a whaling industry management was seen aggressively in the the inter−han whaling industry which is the characteristic of the Saikai whaling industry area here. That led to successive development by the “whaling organization (kujira−gumi)” from formation in the first term in the Edo Period in this whaling industry area to the latter period. Above, the geographical angle as well as the historical science−like angle of the ancient document emphasis were taken in by the main subject. And I made it clear about formative process in a whaling industry area in Japan in the Edo Period when I had almost no studies up to now by that. Moreover the local industry as a large− scale whaling industry and concerning in Han fief were made clear.
