| 抄録 | Small Scale Hydroelectric Power Generation is made using the water drop caused by the gradient difference between that of the river and that of the penstock. The water flow in this system apt to vary with time. Especially, at the time of the flood or that of the dry, the flow in the water stream varies largely. To realize the stable generation, it is necessary to maintain the water level in the head tank located in the mid way in the stream channel at a constant level. In this paper, variation of water level is forecasted using two-tank model for the penstock and the head tank and the water level control algorithm is proposed by deadbeat control. The effectiveness of the algorithm is evaluated beforehand using the simulation program of the water environment for the hydroelectric generation system. |

| 抄録 | In hot strip rolling mills, the looper control system is automated. However, the looper's behavior tends to be unstable in threading. Therefore, human expert always intervenes and stabilizes the looper's behavior by tuning PID gains and interposing manipulation variable of looper control system. In this paper, we propose a method based on the recurrent neural network to express PID gains tuning action by human. Furthermore, we propose two methods to update the model by learning. To check the effectiveness of the proposed learning methods, numerical simulation applied to the looper height control is carried out. |

| 抄録 | Auto Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are widely used in a semi-conductor fabricating factory and contribute to the stable production of a high quality semi-conductor products. In the near future, further expansion of the transportation system is expected accompanied with the rapid growth of semi-conductor industries. In such situation, the necessity of performing quick planning of transportation route and transportation control will be elevated. In this paper, practicable planning of the transportation route and transportation control are studied based on the decentralized agent method. Especially, the geometrical sizes of AGVs are considered in the determination of transportation routes and control strategy avoiding the occurrence of mutual collisions or deadlock of AGVs. |

| 抄録 | Suppression of p21 has been implicated in the genesis and progression of many human malignancies. DNA methylation is an important mechanism of gene silencing in human malignancies. In this study, we examined the expression status and aberrant methylaion of p21 in lung cancers and malignant pleural mesotheliomas (MPM). We used 12 small cell lung cancer (SCLC) cell lines, 13 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines, 50 primary NSCLCs, 6 MPM cell lines and 10 primary MPMs. The expression and methylation of p21 was examined by reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR), Western blotting and methylation-specific PCR (MSP) assay. Loss of p21 protein expression was observed in 7 SCLC cell lines (58.3%), 5 NSCLC cell lines (38.5%) and 3 MPM cell lines (50%) while mRNA expression was lost in 2 SCLC cell lines (16.7%), 2 NSCLC cell lines (15.4%) and none of the MPM cell lines. Aberrant methylation of p21 was found in 8.3% of SCLC cell lines, 30.2% of NSCLCs and 6.3% of MPMs. Among primary NSCLCs, methylation in adenocarcinomas was significantly more frequent than in squamous cell carcinomas. Loss of p21 expression was frequently observed in lung cancers and MPMs and aberrant methylation was one of the mechanisms of suppression of p21, especially in NSCLCs. |

| 抄録 | Replication-selective tumor-specific viruses constitute a novel approach for treatment of neoplastic disease. These vectors are designed to induce virus-mediated lysis of tumor cells after selective viral propagation within the tumor. Human telomerase is highly active in more than 85オ of primary cancers, regardless of their tissue origins, and its activity correlates closely with human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression. We constructed an attenuated adenovirus 5 vector (Telomelysin, OBP-301), in which the hTERT promoter element drives expression of E1 genes. Since only tumor cells that express telomerase activity would activate this promoter, the hTERT proximal promoter would allow for preferential expression of viral genes in tumor cells, leading to selective viral replication and oncolytic cell death. Lymphatic invasion is a major route for cancer cell dissemination, and adequate treatment of locoregional lymph nodes is required for curative treatment in patients with gastrointestinal tumors. We demonstrated that intratumoral injection of Telomelysin mediates effective in vivo purging of metastatic tumor cells from regional lymph nodes. Moreover, using noninvasive whole-body imaging, we found that intratumoral injection of Telomelysin followed by regional irradiation induces a substantial antitumor effect, resulting from tumor cell-specific radiosensitization, in an orthotopic human esophageal cancer xenograft model. These results illustrate the potential of oncolytic virotherapy as a promising strategy in the management of human gastrointestinal cancer. |

| 抄録 | We present a new method for optimally computing the 3-D rotation from two sets of 3-D data. Unlike 2-D data, the noise in 3-D data is inherently inhomogeneous and anisotropic, reflecting the characteristics of the 3-D sensing used. To cope with this, Ohta and Kanatani introduced a technique called “renormalization”. Following them, we represent a 3-D rotation in terms of a quaternion and compute an exact maximum likelihood solution using the FNS of Chojnacki et al. As an example, we consider 3-D data obtained by stereo vision and optimally compute the 3-D rotation by analyzing the noise characteristics of stereo reconstruction. We show that the widely used method is not suitable for 3-D data. We confirm that the renormalization of Ohta and Kanatani indeed computes almost an optimal solution and that, although the difference is small, the proposed method can compute an even better solution. |

| 抄録 | Endothelial glycocalyx (GCX) has been reported as a protective factor for vascular endothelial cells (VEC) in diabetes and hypertension. However, the involvement of GCX impairment in ocular vasculopathy remains unclear. We evaluated the changes in the GCX thicknesses of the retinal and choroidal capillaries in rats with diabetes and hypertension by cationic colloidal iron staining using a transmission electron microscope. In the control group, the mean (standard error of the mean) thicknesses of retinal and choroidal GCX were 60.2 (1.5) nm and 84.3 (3.1) nm, respectively. The diabetic rats showed a significant decrease of GCX thickness in the retina, but not in the choroid, compared to controls (28.3 (0.3) nm, p<0.01 and 77.8 (1.4) nm, respectively). In the hypertensive rats, both retinal and choroidal GCX were significantly decreased compared to the control values (10.9 (0.4) nm and 13.2 (1.0) nm, respectively, both p<0.01). Moreover, we could visualize the adhesion of leukocytes and platelets on the luminal surface of VEC, at the site where the GCX was markedly degraded. These findings suggest that the GCX prevents adhesion of leukocytes and platelets to the VEC surface, and this impairment may lead to ocular vasculopathy in diabetes and hypertension. |
