| 抄録 | Fall accidents are a common cause of femoral fracture in the elderly. The greater trochanter of the femur is often subjected to impact loading by a sideways fall, and thus it is worth studying the impulsive stress waves propagating in the femur. In this study, the impulsive stress was analyzed by the dynamic finite element method using a 3-dimensional model of the femur, and the influence of the fall configuration on the stress was discussed. The stress was concentrated around the femoral neck during the propagation of the stress wave, and the tensile maximum principal stress changed into compressive minimum principle stress on the anterior and medial sides of the neck. On the other hand, the compressive minimum principal stress changed into tensile maximum principle stress on the lateral side of the neck. The largest maximum principal stress during the impact loading was always larger in the neck than in the impact region. The largest absolute value of the minimum principal stress was found in the neck or the impact region depending on the fall configuration. The largest absolute values of the maximum and minimum principal stress were nearly equal, indicating that the bone fracture due to the tensile stress may occur around the femoral neck. |

| 抄録 | Eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is well known as a cationic protein contained in the basic granules of activated eosinophils. Recent studies have reported that ECP exhibits novel activities on various types of cells, including rat neonatal cardiomyocytes. Here we evaluated the effects of ECP on rat cardiac myoblast H9c2 cells. Our results showed that ECP enhanced the survival of the cells, in part by promoting the ERK and Akt/GSK-3β signaling pathways. ECP attenuated the cytotoxic effects of H2O2 on H9c2 cells as well as the production of reactive oxygen species, the number of apoptotic cells and caspase 3/7 activity in the cells. In conclusion, ECP activated the ERK and Akt/GSK-3β pathways, resulting in anti-oxidative effects on H9c2 cells that attenuated apoptosis. |

| 抄録 | The main purpose of this study is to explain the production and shipment of eggplant and the management of farm households in the 7th division of the Kojima bay reclaimed land in Okayama prefecture. 10 pioneers began to cultivate eggplant in a greenhouse in 1969 and the number of farm households, acreage and shipment increased dramatically until the early 1980s. However, decline or stagnation trend has continued thereafter. Farm workers are often 50 years old or more, each farmer has cultivated eggplant, rice, two-rowed malting barley in family management by 2 or 3 persons. Work begins in July. Eggplant seedlings are planted in August, harvest begins in October and heating in November. Pest control is necessary throughout the year, but pesticide use has decreased in recent years. In order to suppress the occur -rence of the pests, workers use both the bunker crops like sesame and natural enemies like Amblyseius swirskii . However, because the prices of agricultural materials and fuel are recently soaring, the farm management of eggplant has become increasingly severe. We propose to expand the sales network by advertising and a more aggressive acceptance of new farmers. |

| 抄録 | This study investigated the civil consciousness on the preserved trees in Himeji city, Hyogo prefecture. We conducted data collection in the city hall,,observed preserved trees, and examined the awareness of citizens against the preserved trees in the central area and Syosya-zan Engyo-ji. As a result, it was revealed that the citizens are not indifferent to the natural environment of trees, etc., they also do not have a strong interest in it in particular. As for preserved tree system, there were some slight differences in the recog -nition between the people who actually take care of trees and administration. People are in favor of the need for the current system of preserved trees. However, in Japan, which is blessed with many things, people do not recognize strongly appreciating the natural environment. |

| 抄録 | The partially preserved left humerus of the Desmostylia (Mammalia) has been collected from the riverbed in Obara, Misaki-cho, Okayama Prefecture in the western Japan. This specimen can be classified to the genus Paleoparadoxia by the following features: the absence of the supratrochlear foramen; the curved disto-lateral border of the shaft in the antero-posterior view; the medio-laterally expanded flat trochlea of humerus. Moreover, this specimen can be referred to cf. P. media on the basis of its middle-sized dimensions. This is the second occurrence of Palaeoparadoxia from Okayama Prefecture. |
