Educating students to become reflective critical thinkers is also the shared goal of the liberal arts colleges I had taught at for over a decade in the United States. I decided to come back to Japan from the United States in 2015 when I was given an opportunity to pursue such education in a more affordable way at a Japanese national university. Due to the nature of labor-intensive and quality education, both liberal arts colleges and IB schools often ask high tuitions. Compare to the expensive private liberal arts colleges in the United States, the tuition of a Japanese national university is more affordable. As the first Japanese national university, which started the special entrance examination for students with IB Diploma, Okayama University started the new English-medium college-degree program called Discovery Program for Global Learners (Hereafter, Discovery Program) in 2017. The program pursues diversity and social innovation for global sustainability while offering affordable higher education in English (and in Japanese for those with Japanese proficiency). In this paper, I compare and contrast U.S. higher education (liberal arts college in particular) and the Discovery Program at Okayama University while paying attention to IB Learner Profile Attributes : Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principles, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, and Reflective. Some (if not all) elements of the profile are shared with many U.S. liberal arts colleges’ mission statements. As one of the founding members of the Discovery Program and the first faculty member hired for this program, I have been trying to incorporate many of the above elements into the Discovery Program. In order to encourage students to become knowledgeable, open-minded, caring, balanced, and reflective inquirers, thinkers, communicators, principled, and risk-takers, institutional environment is crucial. No matter how much students are taught to become the above type of person, if faculty, staff, and administrators behave otherwise, students get confused, lose trust in them, or both. Even if the faculty, staff, and administrators try to meet the expectations, if the institution does not support such efforts, the outcome is compromised. I hope that educational institutions as well as teaching and administrative staff make efforts to embody the persons of principles who are knowledgeable, open-minded, caring, balanced, and reflective inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and risk-takers. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=ChungHaeng-ja en-aut-sei=Chung en-aut-mei=Haeng-ja kn-aut-name=鄭幸子 kn-aut-sei=鄭 kn-aut-mei=幸子 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil=Okayama University kn-affil=岡山大学 en-keyword=日米比較 kn-keyword=日米比較 en-keyword=文化人類学 kn-keyword=文化人類学 en-keyword=振り返り kn-keyword=振り返り en-keyword=Discovery Program for Global Learners at Okayama University kn-keyword=Discovery Program for Global Learners at Okayama University en-keyword=グローバル・ディスカバリー・プログラム kn-keyword=グローバル・ディスカバリー・プログラム en-keyword=国際バカロレア kn-keyword=国際バカロレア en-keyword=IB kn-keyword=IB END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=89 cd-vols= no-issue=7-8 article-no= start-page=859 end-page=863 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1977 dt-pub=19770830 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on the lipid of rat dental pulp II. Lipd peroxidation of dental pulp homogenate isolated from rat 3 days after wholebody irradiation at 1000R x-ray was also induced by ferrous ion, and the activity was higher than that of control homogenate. In the extracted lipid components of dental pulps, the peroxidation of phospholipid were marked, but those of choresterol, choresterol ester, mono-,di-, tri-glycerides, and fatty acid (non-esterified) were slightly or negligible. In the phospholipid components, the peroxidation was highly observed in lecithin, phosphatidyl ethanolamine and phosphatidyl serine, and the peroxidation of phosphatidyl ethanolamine showed the most value in them. By the analysis of the fatty acid composition, arachidonic acid was included in the phos-pholipid but not in the triglyceride, suggesting arachidonic acid is substrate of the peroxidation of dental pulps. kn-abstract=1) 4) リン脂質の脂肪酸組成では,アラキドン酸をはじめ,不飽和含量が多く,トリグリセリドではアラキドン酸はみられなかった. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HashimotoGonosuke en-aut-sei=Hashimoto en-aut-mei=Gonosuke kn-aut-name=橋本郷之助 kn-aut-sei=橋本 kn-aut-mei=郷之助 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部口腔外科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=99 cd-vols= no-issue=1-2 article-no= start-page=49 end-page=56 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1987 dt-pub=19870228 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Two cases of Macromolecular GOT kn-title=高分子GOT血症を呈した2症例 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=The first case of macromolecular GOT was reported by lida et al. in 1973, and since then only 11 cases have been reported. In the present paper, we report two cases of abnormally elevated serum GOT, which was difficult to explain by organic disorders. Using various biochemical and immunological methods, the GOT was concluded to be macromolecular GOT. Sephadex G-100 column chromatography was carried out to estimate the molecular size. After dividing the GOT into isoenzymes by Cellogel membrane electrophoresis, the GOTs were dyed using the GLDH method developed by Lippe. The immunofixation method was used to examine what kind of immunogloblin combined with GOT. Case 1 was a 69-year-old woman with angina pectoris and hypertension. Her serum GOT level was 279 IU/l. Her serum GOT was found to be combined with IgG-x. Case 2 was an 8-year-old boy who suffered from bronchial asthma. His serum GOT levels were highly elevated (192IU/L). The GOT was combined with IgG-λ. In both cases, we estimated the GOT molecular weight to be 14,0000 Daltons. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=MatsubaraKatashi en-aut-sei=Matsubara en-aut-mei=Katashi kn-aut-name=松原堅 kn-aut-sei=松原 kn-aut-mei=堅 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=WatanabeAkiharu en-aut-sei=Watanabe en-aut-mei=Akiharu kn-aut-name=渡辺明治 kn-aut-sei=渡辺 kn-aut-mei=明治 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=HigashiToshihiro en-aut-sei=Higashi en-aut-mei=Toshihiro kn-aut-name=東俊宏 kn-aut-sei=東 kn-aut-mei=俊宏 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=TobeKazuo en-aut-sei=Tobe en-aut-mei=Kazuo kn-aut-name=戸部和夫 kn-aut-sei=戸部 kn-aut-mei=和夫 aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= en-aut-name=NagashimaHideo en-aut-sei=Nagashima en-aut-mei=Hideo kn-aut-name=長島秀夫 kn-aut-sei=長島 kn-aut-mei=秀夫 aut-affil-num=5 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部第一内科学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部第一内科学教室 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部第一内科学教室 affil-num=4 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部第一内科学教室 affil-num=5 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部第一内科学教室 en-keyword=macromolecular GOT kn-keyword=macromolecular GOT en-keyword=immunoglobulin kn-keyword=immunoglobulin en-keyword=IgG-x kn-keyword=IgG-x en-keyword=IgG-λ kn-keyword=IgG-λ END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=2-3.suppl article-no= start-page=29 end-page=36 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660330 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=第75回岡山医学会総会講演抄録 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name= en-aut-sei= en-aut-mei= kn-aut-name=岡山医学会 kn-aut-sei=岡山医学会 kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil= END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=2-3.suppl article-no= start-page=17 end-page=27 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660330 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=胆石について en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=MiyakeHiroshi en-aut-sei=Miyake en-aut-mei=Hiroshi kn-aut-name=三宅博 kn-aut-sei=三宅 kn-aut-mei=博 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=九州大学 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=2-3.suppl article-no= start-page=1 end-page=16 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660330 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=リンパ球の動態, とくに抗原刺激に対する増殖反応 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=OsogoeBunsuke en-aut-sei=Osogoe en-aut-mei=Bunsuke kn-aut-name=尾曽越文亮 kn-aut-sei=尾曽越 kn-aut-mei=文亮 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=1.suppl article-no= start-page=77 end-page=84 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660130 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=1964年度岡山市および倉敷市における日本脳炎の流行と蚊の季節的消長 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=Mosquitoes were collected by light-trapping twice a week during nights totally 38 times from Okayama City, 25 times from Ichinomiya near Okayama City, and 34 times and 40 times from Mizushima and Hama in Kurashiki City, and the number of mosquitoes trapped was 5, 209, 331, 144, 782, and 4, 395 respectively. The virus and PS cells were kindly supplied by Dr. Y. Kanda Inoue at the Virus Institue of Kyoto University. PS cells were cultivated in bottles containing 10% calf serum and 0.5% lactalbumin hydrolyzate in Earle's balanced solution. Titration of cellassociated virus was estimated by cytopathic effect. At various intervals following infection, the cells were fixed in buffered 1% osmium tetroxide solution, embedded in methacrylates and cut on a Leitz ultramicrotome. After sections were stained in saturated uranyl acetate solution, they were observed in the Hitachi type HU ll electron microscope. Japanese B encephalitis virus particles were hexagonal in thin sections and approximately 40 mμ in the longest diameter, composed of the outer membrane, 30Å in thickness, viroplasm, 30Å in thickness and an electron-dense nucleoid, 25 mμ in diameter, After the virus particles developed in the process of budding on the wall of the cytoplasmic vacuole, they were densely packed in the vacuole usually in random arrangement and occasionally in crystalline arrays. The vacuole containing the virus particles gradually migrated to the cell surface and liberted the particles to the exterior of the cell through a narrow canaliculus which was formed between the vacuole and cell surface. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HirakiKiyoshi en-aut-sei=Hiraki en-aut-mei=Kiyoshi kn-aut-name=平木潔 kn-aut-sei=平木 kn-aut-mei=潔 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=OtaZensuke en-aut-sei=Ota en-aut-mei=Zensuke kn-aut-name=太田善介 kn-aut-sei=太田 kn-aut-mei=善介 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=SuzukiShinya en-aut-sei=Suzuki en-aut-mei=Shinya kn-aut-name=鈴木信也 kn-aut-sei=鈴木 kn-aut-mei=信也 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=TakahashiKenji en-aut-sei=Takahashi en-aut-mei=Kenji kn-aut-name=高橋建次 kn-aut-sei=高橋 kn-aut-mei=建次 aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= en-aut-name=MugurumaMasahito en-aut-sei=Muguruma en-aut-mei=Masahito kn-aut-name=六車昌士 kn-aut-sei=六車 kn-aut-mei=昌士 aut-affil-num=5 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科 affil-num=4 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科 affil-num=5 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=1.suppl article-no= start-page=51 end-page=59 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660130 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=日本脳炎の脳波学的研究 特にその診断と予後の監視に於ける脳波の応用について en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=It is the purpose of this paper to present an electroencephalographic study on Japanese B encephalitis for elucidating its pathophysiology, aiding its diagnosis and treatment and for evaluating its prognosis. Electroencephalograms of 19 patients admitted to our clinic were investigated in their courses of Japanese B encephalitis. We clinician have had only one method to know cerebral pathology in encephalitis, that is to judge on neurological signs and symptoms, and yet it is not entirely reliable. However, EEG can disclose pathological process which has been taken place and is going on in the acute stage in the brain of the patient and we can grasp whole pathology objectively by EEG. Besides this, we suppose we can know the prognosis of the patients more accurately by reading EEG than other conventional methods. In the acute stage, there is a bilateral symmetric monorhythmic continuous high voltage delta activity of 1 to 2.5c/s with frontal dominancy. This pattern is very characteristic of the Japanese B encepaalitis. This finding suggests that the primary lesion of this disease is located in the subcortical structure, especially in the ascending reticular formation of the brain stem. Electroencephalographic findings in the process of Japanese B encephalitis are illustrated in Table 1 Patients recover from encephalitis with the EEG findings in the order of 1) to 7) (from up to down) shown on the Table 1. in his EEG if the patient follows uneventful course. We have confirmed it takes about 1 year for the patient to follow the above-mentioned process and finally attain normal EEG. This is quite different from in the case of aseptic meningitis. If the patient fails to follow the above-mentioned course and stop at some stage in the middle, we consider this patient has much possibility to develop mental deficiency or other nourological sequelae. In the case that patient shows epileptic discharge in his EEG during convalescent period, we predict this patient will develop clinical epilepsy sooner or later. We, therefore, think it very important to have successive EEG study at least for four years on the patient with encephalitis even after his clinical abnormality clears up. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HamamotoEiji en-aut-sei=Hamamoto en-aut-mei=Eiji kn-aut-name=浜本英次 kn-aut-sei=浜本 kn-aut-mei=英次 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=OhtaharaShunsuke en-aut-sei=Ohtahara en-aut-mei=Shunsuke kn-aut-name=大田原俊輔 kn-aut-sei=大田原 kn-aut-mei=俊輔 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=TakabatakeYoshito en-aut-sei=Takabatake en-aut-mei=Yoshito kn-aut-name=高畠美人 kn-aut-sei=高畠 kn-aut-mei=美人 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=MukaiYukio en-aut-sei=Mukai en-aut-mei=Yukio kn-aut-name=向井幸生 kn-aut-sei=向井 kn-aut-mei=幸生 aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= en-aut-name=OkaEiji en-aut-sei=Oka en-aut-mei=Eiji kn-aut-name=岡鍈次 kn-aut-sei=岡 kn-aut-mei=鍈次 aut-affil-num=5 ORCID= en-aut-name=OhnoMinoru en-aut-sei=Ohno en-aut-mei=Minoru kn-aut-name=大野稔 kn-aut-sei=大野 kn-aut-mei=稔 aut-affil-num=6 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科学教室 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科学教室 affil-num=4 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科学教室 affil-num=5 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科学教室 affil-num=6 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=1.suppl article-no= start-page=41 end-page=49 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660130 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=過去15年間(昭和25年-昭和39年)の鳥取県下における日本脳炎の流行状況について 日本脳炎の疫学的研究, 第5報 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=In their epidemiological studies on the epidemic of Japanese B Encephalitis that broke out in Tottori Prefecture during past 15 years (1950-1964), the authors obtained the following results. 1) Every year's morbidity rate except 1954 in Tottori Prefecture was higher than that in all Japan. 2) As for the season of prevalence, the end of August or the beginning of September was a peak of prevalence. 3) In the next year of a high epidemic year, there was tendency that the peak of prevalence expressed as median was later coming than that of the former year. 4) As for the district of prevalence, the morbidity rate of Sakaiminato City is the smallest in Tottori Prefecture during past 15 years. 5) As for the sex, male morbidity rate was higher than female one. 6) Concerning age, rate of morbidity in children below 10 years of age has been decreased, and that in people above 60 years of age has been increased during past 5 years. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=TerataniIwao en-aut-sei=Teratani en-aut-mei=Iwao kn-aut-name=寺谷巌 kn-aut-sei=寺谷 kn-aut-mei=巌 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=OgataMasana en-aut-sei=Ogata en-aut-mei=Masana kn-aut-name=緒方正名 kn-aut-sei=緒方 kn-aut-mei=正名 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=1.suppl article-no= start-page=31 end-page=39 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660130 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=岡山県に於ける豚, さぎ, 住民の日本脳炎血球凝集抑制反応値の変動 日本脳炎の疫学的研究, 第4報 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=Haemoagglutinin inhibition test (HI test) of Japanese B Encephalitis was conducted in the people, pigs and heron that lived in Okayama Prefecture in 1966, and following results were obtained. 1. On the HI test of night heron, caught at the nests in the mountain at Tsudaka Village, half of heron showed positive reaction. However HI test of white heron lived in the nests near the nests of night heron, showed negative reaction. 3. On the HI test of inhabitants in Higashiawakura Village, where the patient of Japanese B Encephalitis has not been found, a half of the inhabitants injected Japanese B Encephalitis vaccine showed positive reaction and the non vaccinated group showed negative reaction. 4. The high specific active antibody of HI reaction was prepared from pig γ globulin by DEAE cellulose column çhromatography. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=OgataMasana en-aut-sei=Ogata en-aut-mei=Masana kn-aut-name=緒方正名 kn-aut-sei=緒方 kn-aut-mei=正名 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=HasegawaNorihiko en-aut-sei=Hasegawa en-aut-mei=Norihiko kn-aut-name=長谷川敬彦 kn-aut-sei=長谷川 kn-aut-mei=敬彦 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=HitomiKatashi en-aut-sei=Hitomi en-aut-mei=Katashi kn-aut-name=人見硬 kn-aut-sei=人見 kn-aut-mei=硬 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=AwayaKengo en-aut-sei=Awaya en-aut-mei=Kengo kn-aut-name=粟屋研吾 kn-aut-sei=粟屋 kn-aut-mei=研吾 aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= en-aut-name=TerataniIwao en-aut-sei=Teratani en-aut-mei=Iwao kn-aut-name=寺谷巌 kn-aut-sei=寺谷 kn-aut-mei=巌 aut-affil-num=5 ORCID= en-aut-name=KitamuraNaoji en-aut-sei=Kitamura en-aut-mei=Naoji kn-aut-name=北村直次 kn-aut-sei=北村 kn-aut-mei=直次 aut-affil-num=6 ORCID= en-aut-name=NagaoYutaka en-aut-sei=Nagao en-aut-mei=Yutaka kn-aut-name=長尾寛 kn-aut-sei=長尾 kn-aut-mei=寛 aut-affil-num=7 ORCID= en-aut-name=TakahashiTakeo en-aut-sei=Takahashi en-aut-mei=Takeo kn-aut-name=高橋武夫 kn-aut-sei=高橋 kn-aut-mei=武夫 aut-affil-num=8 ORCID= en-aut-name=KondoHiroshi en-aut-sei=Kondo en-aut-mei=Hiroshi kn-aut-name=近藤博 kn-aut-sei=近藤 kn-aut-mei=博 aut-affil-num=9 ORCID= en-aut-name=KajikiyoTetsuro en-aut-sei=Kajikiyo en-aut-mei=Tetsuro kn-aut-name=梶清哲朗 kn-aut-sei=梶清 kn-aut-mei=哲朗 aut-affil-num=10 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 affil-num=4 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 affil-num=5 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部公衆衛生学教室 affil-num=6 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山県衛生研究所 affil-num=7 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山県衛生研究所 affil-num=8 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山県衛生部 affil-num=9 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山県衛生部 affil-num=10 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山県衛生部 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=59 cd-vols= no-issue=1 article-no= start-page=22 end-page=40 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1947 dt-pub=19471031 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=岡山醫學會第五十七回総會演説抄録 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name= en-aut-sei= en-aut-mei= kn-aut-name=岡山医学会 kn-aut-sei=岡山医学会 kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil= END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=59 cd-vols= no-issue=1 article-no= start-page=10 end-page=21 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1947 dt-pub=19471031 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=岡山醫學會第五十六回總會演説抄録 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name= en-aut-sei= en-aut-mei= kn-aut-name=岡山医学会 kn-aut-sei=岡山医学会 kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil= END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=59 cd-vols= no-issue=1 article-no= start-page=1 end-page=9 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1947 dt-pub=19471031 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=「ビタミン」と含水炭素新陳代謝 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name= en-aut-sei= en-aut-mei= kn-aut-name=稻田進 kn-aut-sei=稻田 kn-aut-mei=進 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山醫科大學山岡内科 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=7-9 article-no= start-page=929 end-page=942 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660930 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=Echinostoma hortense ASADA, 1926の生殖細胞染色体と受精に関する研究 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=The adult worms were collected from rats 30 days after infection with metacercariae of Echinostoma hortense which cysted on the gill of Misgurunus anguillicaudatus. The testis and ovaries of matured worms were extracted from live adult worms and there were stained with 45% aceto-orcein solution for chromosome observations. The results of the study are briefly presented as follows. 1. Ten bivalent chromosomes can be seen in both primary spermatocytes and oocytes, which signifies the diploid number of chromosomes to be 20 (2n=20). 2. A spermatocyte is divided into four spertides after binary division. 3. The spermatozac after being transformed into the same number of spermatides, pass through vas deferens and wanter out to the seminal vesicle, and after copulation there, they are ejected into the uterus. 4. When the ovum has moved to the center of ovary, it reaches the leptotene stage and is inseminated. 5. The cocyte after insemination enters into egg-shell at ootype and then migranting towards the uterus, under goes two mitotis (meitotic) division and is transformed to prenucleus. 6. Sperms are gradually enlarged within the oocyte and forming the nucleus, now are transformed to sexual pronucleus. Oocytes that have formed sexual pronucleus in the center of uterus undergo karyogamy near she periphery of uterus, and after the first cleavage of ovum, there are formed two cells of a large and a small one each having 2n=20 chromosomes. Subsequently, they undergo the second cleavage to form one large cell and three small cells. At the time of spawning the ovum is composed of the primary and secondary polocytes and a cell at the fourth cleavage as well as a vitelline cell just before disintegration. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=KusauraTsutomu en-aut-sei=Kusaura en-aut-mei=Tsutomu kn-aut-name=草浦勉 kn-aut-sei=草浦 kn-aut-mei=勉 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=6 article-no= start-page=757 end-page=763 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660630 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=第39回 岡山外科会演題 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name= en-aut-sei= en-aut-mei= kn-aut-name=岡山外科会 kn-aut-sei=岡山外科会 kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil= END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=6 article-no= start-page=733 end-page=739 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660630 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=放射性同位元素の生体に及ぼす影響について 第1篇 体内照射の影響 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=As a step for the measurement of the reticuloendothelial systems (RES) functions, there is a method of labeling serum iron colloid with 59Fe. Employing the same method, this study was conducted in an attempt to see whether there would be any differences in the radiation effects when 59Fe is injected at varying doses. Experimentals: The animals used were healthy normal rabbits and they were divided into different groups of those receiveng the doses of 10μCi, 50μCi, 250μCi, and 700μCi as well as those injectcd with non-radioactive serum iron colloid solution, and simultaneously congored was injected to every group and then the congored indices were obtained. One week later identically the same doses for the respective groups were again injected. and also congored, and the congored indices of these two trials were compared. Fluctuations of the 59Fe level in whole blood were observed. The animals were sacrificed by exsanguination at 12 hours and 96 hours after the injection. On the tenth day after the injection hemograms were studied to determine the effects of the injections. Results: 1. It has been found that the higher the dose of 59Fe, the greater is the inhibitory effect on the 59Fe incorporation into hemoglobin, but the dose of 59Fe itself seems to have little effect on the function of phagocytosis. 2. There can be observed no appreciable differences in the hemograms on the tenth day after the injection among these groups of animals. 3. The quantity of iron deposited in various organs at 12 hours and 96 hours after the injection decreased in the order of bone marrow, liver and spleen in all the groups receiving 59Fe but there could be seen no differences among these various groups. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=YamamotoMichio en-aut-sei=Yamamoto en-aut-mei=Michio kn-aut-name=山本道夫 kn-aut-sei=山本 kn-aut-mei=道夫 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=TanabeMasatada en-aut-sei=Tanabe en-aut-mei=Masatada kn-aut-name=田辺正忠 kn-aut-sei=田辺 kn-aut-mei=正忠 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=KatsumataNaomi en-aut-sei=Katsumata en-aut-mei=Naomi kn-aut-name=勝俣直躬 kn-aut-sei=勝俣 kn-aut-mei=直躬 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=HadaYoshihiro en-aut-sei=Hada en-aut-mei=Yoshihiro kn-aut-name=羽田良洋 kn-aut-sei=羽田 kn-aut-mei=良洋 aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部放射線医学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部放射線医学教室 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部放射線医学教室 affil-num=4 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部放射線医学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=6 article-no= start-page=677 end-page=682 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660630 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=エル・トール・ビブリオ鞭毛の構造 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=In this experiment it was possible to observe structure of the flagella of El Tor vibrio. Larvae were collected from Trachurus japonicus on which they live as parasites. These larvae were classified by the method of Skrjabin et al, and they were found to be larvae of Raphidascaris, Anisakis (Filocapsularia), Contracaecum, and Amplicaecum. Both light and electron microscope observations were carried out with cross-section specimens of these larvae, and it was possible to obtain some characteristic morphological features of the larvae of Anisakis type. Some of these features that differ from those of other larvae are described briefly in the following. 1. The length of larvae of Anisakis type is longest of all the four kinds, and the cross-section of this larva revealed a lateral cord which has a peculiar shape and size. 2. This larva has the thickest cuticle as compared with other three kinds, and the number of muscle cells is most numerous. In addition, the arrangement of the bond of myofibrils is characteristic. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=InatomiSeiiti en-aut-sei=Inatomi en-aut-mei=Seiiti kn-aut-name=稲臣成一 kn-aut-sei=稲臣 kn-aut-mei=成一 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=ItoYoshihiro en-aut-sei=Ito en-aut-mei=Yoshihiro kn-aut-name=伊藤義博 kn-aut-sei=伊藤 kn-aut-mei=義博 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=SakumotoDaigoro en-aut-sei=Sakumoto en-aut-mei=Daigoro kn-aut-name=作本台五郎 kn-aut-sei=作本 kn-aut-mei=台五郎 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=ItanoKazuo en-aut-sei=Itano en-aut-mei=Kazuo kn-aut-name=板野一男 kn-aut-sei=板野 kn-aut-mei=一男 aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= en-aut-name=KusauraTutomu en-aut-sei=Kusaura en-aut-mei=Tutomu kn-aut-name=草浦勉 kn-aut-sei=草浦 kn-aut-mei=勉 aut-affil-num=5 ORCID= en-aut-name=OkahashiKiyoshi en-aut-sei=Okahashi en-aut-mei=Kiyoshi kn-aut-name=岡橋清 kn-aut-sei=岡橋 kn-aut-mei=清 aut-affil-num=6 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 affil-num=4 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 affil-num=5 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 affil-num=6 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部寄生虫学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=4-5 article-no= start-page=513 end-page=519 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660530 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=琉球宮古群島における小中学校学童の医学的調査について en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=An expedition was performed on Miyako Is., Ryukyu, carrying out medical examinations on school-children in May and June, 1965. A droplet application of adrenaline, ephedrine and adrenalone in the concentrations of 0.01%, 0.5% and 1% respectively applied to the pupil of normal rabbits brought about mydriasis of a similar degree in every case. Consequently, the potency of these drugs on bringing about mydriasis was in the order of 100:2:1. This finding coincides well with that of Kinoshita and Tani of our labaratory in which they found that ephedrine and adrenalone hardly affected the accelerative fibers of the sympathetic nervous system but these drugs strongly influenced the inhibitory fibers. The fact that the mydriatic action of ephedrine and adrenalone is far less potent than that of adrenaline seems to be explained by the fact that the dilatator muscles of the pupil are innervated with the accelerative fibers. 2. In the rabbit given a monolateral resection of the superior cervical ganglion the pupil on the resected side responded much more sensitively to these three drugs than that on the normal side. In such instances, there can be observed the so called “Paradoxe Pupillenerweiterung” phenomenon. 3. The administration of yohimbine alone has hardly any effect on the pupil of both normal and monolaterally resected rabbits, but in the rabbits previously treated with yohimbine, the mydriatic effect of adrenaline is clearly diminished. This fact further supports the contention that the accelerative fibers of the sympathetic nervous system are the principal controller of the dilatator muscles. 4. Urethan is found to enhance the mydriatic effet of adrenaline in both normal and rabbits monolaterally resected of superior cervical ganglion, but a similar phenomenon can also be observed in the rabbits given adrenalectomy. Therefore, it seems that the enhancement of adrenaline mydriasis induced by urethan is not due to the increase in the adrenaline secretion but rather due to the paralysis of the cerebral cortex. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HaradaHichiro en-aut-sei=Harada en-aut-mei=Hichiro kn-aut-name=原田七郎 kn-aut-sei=原田 kn-aut-mei=七郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=MiyaziTetsuya en-aut-sei=Miyazi en-aut-mei=Tetsuya kn-aut-name=宮地鉄也 kn-aut-sei=宮地 kn-aut-mei=鉄也 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部薬理学教室 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部薬理学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=10 article-no= start-page=975 end-page=978 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19661030 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Effects of Apomorphine and Caffeine on the Sexual Cycle in Abino Rat kn-title=ApomorphineおよびCaffeineの白鼠性周期におよぼす影響 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=1. Atropine administered in a certain dose has no influence on the inhibitory effect of either one of these two drugs, but luminal and urethan suppress almost completely the inhibitory action of these drugs, especially it has a reversal effect on the action of caffeine. 3. This prolongation of the sexual cycle seems to be due to the primary excitation of the cerebral cortex and subsequently that of the diencephalone, and aside from its inhibitory action caffeine has an accelerating effect and under normal conditions the former effect seems to predominate the latter. 4. The principal reason for this difference in the opinions seems to lie especially in the methods employed in the application of autonomic drugs. Thus far most of investigators have administered autonomic drugs daily over a long period, but in the belief that for the solution of this problem it would seem to be more effectiv to administer repeatedly an adequate dose of these drugs for a short period of time, the author studied by this method the effect of pilocarpine on the sexual cycle of albino rats and reported that stimulation or tonic increase of the parasympathetic nervous system inhibited the development of ovarian follicles. In the present experiment for the purpose to verify this contention, the author used esmodil which is a chemical analogue of acetylcholine and has several pharmacological effects similar to the latter but whose effect on the sexual cycle remains obscure. As the results the following data were obtained. 1. The injection of esmodil in the dose of 0.1-0.15 mg repeated three times a day for 4 days beginning from proestrus arrested the sexual cycle for 6 to 14 days. In addition, there could be observed the findings in the ovary and uterus which corresponded such a suppression. 2. When esmodil was used concurrently with atropine, such a suppressing effect was practically all inhibited. 3. Consequently, these findings support considerably the author's contention that the stimulation or the tonic increase of the parasympathetic nervous system inhibits the development of the ovarian follicles. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HaradaHichiro en-aut-sei=Harada en-aut-mei=Hichiro kn-aut-name=原田七郎 kn-aut-sei=原田 kn-aut-mei=七郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部薬理学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=10 article-no= start-page=963 end-page=967 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19661030 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=3種の新Strychnine誘導体の血液凝固におよぼす影響 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=While there are many basic and clinical studies on strychnine, reports on its derivatives are rare, except for a few reports by Koizumi and Chiyoda of our laboratory. They conducted general pharmacological studies on ethylstrychnine I, II, iodoethylstrychnine and strychnic acid ethylbetaine, new derivatives of strychnine. As a link in the series of such studies the author carried out some inverstigations on the effects of these three derivatives on blood clotting. and briefly presents the main results of the inverstigation. 1. Both ethylstrychnine I and II as well as iodoethylstrychnine, like their mother substance, strychnine, were found to shorten the blood clotting time of rabbits, and to enhance the blood coagulating elements. This effect was predominant in ethylstrychnine II followed by iodoethylstrychnine. The order of this potency coincides with that of the minimal lethal dose as found by Koizumi. 2. It was difficult to demonstrate this effect in vitro. Consequently, it is reasonable to assume that this effect to accelerate the blood clotting time is not due to a direct action of the drug on blood itself but is due to the bioreaction. 3. This accelerating effect on the blood clotting is almost completely inhibited by luminal, a brain-stem narcotics, but it is not affected by the premedication with yohimbine nor by the resection of bilateral, subdiaphragmatic splanchnic nerves. 4. It seems that this accelerating action is of a central nature and probably it is induced by an increase of coagulating elements such as fibrinogen and thrombin, resulting from the stimulating effect of the drug on the so-called blood coagulation-accelerative center in the diencephalon. In this instance, it appears that the splanchnic nerves are not involved in the transmission of excitation from the above metioned center to the peripheral region, but in this experiment it was impossible to demonstrate any evidence proving that the transmission of such stimuli is conducted via sympathetic accelerative fibers en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HaradaHichiro en-aut-sei=Harada en-aut-mei=Hichiro kn-aut-name=原田七郎 kn-aut-sei=原田 kn-aut-mei=七郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部薬理学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=10 article-no= start-page=955 end-page=961 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19661030 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=Picrotoxineの白鼠性周期におよぼす影響 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=1. It was found that picrotoxine has an effect to arrest the sexual cycle on mature female rats for the period of 8 to 15 days, with the picture of diestrus. During the arrest of the sexual cycle the uterus presented a picture of luteohormone action, and the ovaries showed that of vigorous activity of the lutein body and the growth of ovarian follicles was inhibited and on about the seventh day of the reststadium the ovarian follicles began to develop and the luteinbody under-went retrogressive metamorphosis. 2. When luminal, a brain-stem narcotics, was concurrently used, there could be seen no such effects of picrotoxine just mentioned nor any noteworthy findings of the uterus and ovaries while in the case of concurrent use of urethan the effect of picrotoxine was rather potentiated. 3. The combined use of atropine or yohimbine had practically no influence on the effect of picrotoxine. 4. It seems that picrotoxine attacks the sexual function regulating center in the diencephalon, especially its inhibitory center of the sympathetic nervous system. In this instance, since the duration of the arrest of the sexual cycle and the findings of both organs coincide with those of pseudopregnancy, as reported by Long et al., the excitation of the central nervous system induces the pseudopregnancy phenomenon and the cerebral cortex plays a role of inhibitor and the resultant paralysis enhances the excitation of this center en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HaradaHichiro en-aut-sei=Harada en-aut-mei=Hichiro kn-aut-name=原田七郎 kn-aut-sei=原田 kn-aut-mei=七郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部薬理学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=4-5 article-no= start-page=509 end-page=512 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660530 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=乳腺細網肉腫の1例 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=This article is to report a case of reticulosarcoma in the breast. The materials studied were 11 cases of moderate to severe hepatic hemosiderosis, either primary or secondary, diagnosed with needle liver biopsy specimens. The results were as follows: 1) The decrease of serum iron, disappearance or reduction of stainable tissue iron in the liver, depigmentation of the skin were induced by parenteral or oral administration of α-M P G at the daily dosis of 200 to 450 mg for 2 to 6 months. The phenomena were explained as the results of a chelating effect of α-M P G on excess tissue iron in the liver. 2) No significant effect on essential serum electrolyte such as potassium, calcium was observed during the α-M P G administration. 3) No undesirable side effect was noted, therefore, a prolonged administration was practicable. 4) Iron excretion into the urine was less intense than that with dithiocarbamate, however, it was more intense than that with penicillamine. On the other hand, iron excretion into the feces was observed in the decreasing order with dithiocarbamate, desferrioxamine B, penicillamime, and α-M P G. The daily excretion of iron into urine amounted 2 to 4 mg with α-M P G. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=OhtaYasuyuki en-aut-sei=Ohta en-aut-mei=Yasuyuki kn-aut-name=太田康幸 kn-aut-sei=太田 kn-aut-mei=康幸 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=FukushimaIsao en-aut-sei=Fukushima en-aut-mei=Isao kn-aut-name=福島功 kn-aut-sei=福島 kn-aut-mei=功 aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=OrimeAkio en-aut-sei=Orime en-aut-mei=Akio kn-aut-name=折免昭雄 kn-aut-sei=折免 kn-aut-mei=昭雄 aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小坂内科 affil-num=2 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小坂内科 affil-num=3 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小坂内科 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=4-5 article-no= start-page=503 end-page=508 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660530 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=リポイド肺炎を呈した縦隔型肺癌の1例 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=In Japanese literature only 15 cases of lipoid pneumonia have been found, including this one. The fibrinolytic activies in the group of patients showing the serum and synovial fluid positive to CRP reaction were more marked than those in the negatiye group. 3. In the active stage of rheumatic activity the serum fibrinolysis was also more marked than that at the rest stage. In the observations carried out for a long period of time on individual cases the extent of the serum fibrinolysis coincided well with the rheumatic activity. 4. There was a correlation between the fibrinolysis of synovial fluid and the quantity of fluid accumulated. 5. The fibrinolytic activities of the synovial fluid obtained from the knee joint previously injected with osmic acid paralleled well with the inflammatory symptoms, and also parallaled with the amounts of fluid accumulated as well as with the synovial response to CRP reaction and the cell counts. 6. In those of coating type where fibrin exudate on the synovial membrane was copious histopathologically, they also showed high fibrinolytic activity of synovial fluid. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=HiramatsuHidehiko en-aut-sei=Hiramatsu en-aut-mei=Hidehiko kn-aut-name=平松英彦 kn-aut-sei=平松 kn-aut-mei=英彦 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学整形外科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=78 cd-vols= no-issue=1 article-no= start-page=67 end-page=71 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1966 dt-pub=19660130 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title= kn-title=防蚊対策としての「ヘリコプター」による殺虫剤の空中散布成績 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=The population density of mosquitoes in paddy fields for rush grasses was investigated during their growing season, from December, 1963 through July, 1965, at three spots in Okyama Prefecture, Ichinomiya near Okayama City, Bakuro-cho in Kurashiki City, and Chaya-cho.
