The movement of extirpated intestine of the young rabbits, reared under the same hot and humid environment as previous two experiments for 46 days, was observed by Magnus's method. The following results were obtained 1. The movement of extirpated small intestine was reduced under these conditions, and effects of adrenalin and acetylcholin were milder than that of the control. 2. There was no difference in the movement of extirpated colon between the test and control animals. The effects of adrenalin were reduced and the effects of acetylcholin were increased under these conditions. However, in the rabbits reared in these environments for only two weeks, the movement of estirpated colon was reduced and the effects of adrenalin and acetylcholin showed an increase as compared with that of control animals. These results indicate that in high temperature and high humidity some disharmony is caused to the autonomic nervous system of young animals and the function of their digestive organs is disturbed. Generally, during the early summer in Japan, when it is very hot and humid it can be said that the function of digestive organs of Japanese infants who are usually heavily clothed are apt to be decreased. Therefore, it can be considered that such disturbances of digestive function during the sultry season play a important part in causing attacks of "Jusho-Shokafuryosho", a serious infantile summer dyspepsia in Japan.

The movement of stomach of the young rabbits reared under the same conditions as the previous tests for 35 days was observed by the balloon mehtod. Adrenalin and acetylcholin were then injected into the veins of the ear and their effects on the movement of stomach were studied. The following results were obtained by these kymographic records 1. The movement of stomach of the young rabbits under hot and humid environment showed a remarkable decline in comparison with that of control animals. 2. Both the inhibiting action of adrenalin and the exciting action of acetylcholin on the movement of stomach were reduced under these conditions.

Young rabbits were reared in the environment with the wet temperature ranging from 23 to 30°C and with the humidity of 80 to 90 per cent for 47 days, and then the passage time of food through their stomach and intestines was examined by roentgenologic method. The following results were obtained 1. Under hot and humid environment the prolongation of the pyloric passage was found in 3 of 6 cases. 2. Under these conditions the passage time of food through the stomach and intestines was remarkably prolonged as compared with of control animals.

We have taken observations on 28 cases of Panmyelopathia, all of which belonged to inpatients of our dept., statistically and clinically; results were as follows:- There were found no definite co-relations either iu age, sex. or by occupation; except 1 case of chronic X-Ray injury; for conscious symptoms, facial paleness was found almost inevitably, while fever, general languor, and palpitation were discovered to succeed it; as for the bleeding, in main it was wont to appear in the form of gingival bleeding, epistaxis, or ecchymosis; for symptoms that were discovered by others, red-cell sedimentation rate was found to be stimulated, in total cases, and such as lengthened bleeding time, anemic cardiac murmurs, together with changes in the eye ground, was recognizable in most cases. Among the blood figure. number of red cells was seen to be about a million or so in majority of cases; while, figures below 1 million was considered to point at serious prognosis. As to hemoglobin content, in most cases, it occupied 20% or so; in respect to hemoglobin index, most of them indicated a hyperchrom, over the entire process, or in partial process. In most cases, the numher of leucocytes proved to be short of 4000, which was also supposed to keep much co-relation with the prognosis. In view to differentiation of lencocytes, a decrease of grauulocytes, an increase of lymphocytes appeared, and in general, in deceased cases, lymphocytosis was clearly observed. Number of blood platelet were apt to decrease to a certain extent. Number of reticulocytes was seen to be small in majority of cases, but it would seem unreasonable to refer to it for the state of prognosis. Heinz' body proved, in serious cases, a value pretty nigh to 1, 000‰, showing a great difference with that, belonging to another sort of anemic diseases, as well as people in healthy condition. No special phase was foundin the myelogramm; in respective disease, various apperances of hematopoetic functions observed. The disease could generally be divided into following 5 types. I. Type of bloodcell-arrest. II. Type of maturation-arrest III. Type of disturbanced regeneration. IV. Mixed type. V. Panmyelophthisis. By dint of Tissue Culture of bone marrow. it has been supposed that there existed certain factor that inhibited growth of parenchyma of bone marrow directly; moreover, the functions of bone marrow have suffered a marked hindrance; Having examined respiration and glycolysis in bone marrow, it was discovered that with type of blodcell-arrest, it has proved normal; with other typs, proved considerablly low value. Its sideroblastogram proved slightly to shift to the right. Generally in most cases, gastric juice showed certain hypoacidity. Among the circulatory system, no unique quality discovered, while the rise in serum iron value was seen, owing to extreme decrease of hematopoetic function. Amongst urine and cerebrospinal fluid, some anemia-causing substance has been detected. As for sugar metabolism, rate for normal and abnormal stood almost the same; while as for the basal metabolism, there was discovered some abnormality. The function test of autonomic nervous system, also showed much abnormality. As to histological view, a high degree atrophy was discovered in hematopoetic tissue, with a marked bleeding tendency.

Spinal fluid from children with Guillain-Barrés syndrome, Japanese encephalitis, and cerebral palsy was concentrated by Ewerbeck's method. Spinal fluid of high protein content from children with hemorrhagic duritis was not concentrated. Protein fractions were analysed with Tiselius' electrophoretic apparatus. The following results were obtained. 1) Spinal fluid protein contained 4 fractions as in serum protein. Beside these V-fraction before albumin and τ-fraction between β-globulin and γ-globulin were noted. γ-globulin was less than in serum. 2) In one case of Guillain-Barrés syndrome, and in the convalescent period of Japanese encephalitis, remarkably steep and sharp τ-peaks were noted. The peak in the former reached 7.0% and that in the latter 16.8%. γ-globulin percentage was somewhat higher than in other cases. 3) In cerebral palsy, no special changes were noted. 4) In hemorrhagic duritis, no V- and τ-fraction were noted. Almost the same results as in serum protein fractions were obtained.

Rabbits were blockaded with injections of trypan blue and Indian ink and their serum protein fractions were studied. α-globulin was remarkably high in the group of blockaded rabbits. γ-globulin in the group blockaded with trypanblue was 12.1%, 0.69g% (77% in control group) and that in the group blockaded with Indian ink was 11.5%, 0.66g% (73% in control group) indicating remarkable decreases. This means that the reticuloendothelium may play a role in the production of γ-globulin and that if its function is disturbed, the productin of γ-globulin will decrase. The above mentioned results reveal that hypo-γ-globulinaemia in dogs reared in high temperature and high humibity in chapters 1 and 2 is due to reticuloendotherial functional disturbances. Summarizing the results in chapters 1, 2 and 3, it is evident that hypo-γ-globulinaemia in Jusho-Shokafuryosho is due to reticuloendotherial functional disturbances caused by high temperature and high humidity and that high temperature and high humidity play an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease.

Young dogs were divided into the following 3 groups. Group 1: Reared with normal food in a normal temperature for 30 days (4 dogs). Group 2: Reared on a low protein diet in a normal temperature for 30 days (5 dogs). Group 3: Reared on a low protein diet in high temperature and high humidity for 30 days (5 dogs). Serum protein fractions of each of these 3 groups were electrophoretically studied and compared each other. The results were as follows: In group 1. total protein, albumin and γ-globulin content increased 117%, 117% and 142%, respectively, during this period as compared with those before this experiment. In group 2, total protein and albumin content decreased to 74% and 28%, respectively, as compared with those before this experment, but γ-globulin content increased to 145%. In group 3, total protein and albumin content remarkably decreased to 63% and 20%, respectively, but γ-globulin content increased to 114%. However this increase is smaller than in other groups. These results indicate that when low protein diet is given, arbumin decreases but γ-globulin does not decrease, and only after the mesenchymal function is damaged by high temprature and high humidity does hypo-γ-globulinaemia occur. From this fact it is thought that hypo-γ-globulinaemia in patient with Jusho-shokafuryosho is due to mesenchymal functional disturbances caused by high temperature and high humidity rather than due to low protein feeding that the human infant in the weaning period is apt to receive.

Young dogs were divided into the following 3 groups. Group 1 Reared in normal temperature (5 dogs). Group 2. Reared in high temperature and high humidity for 15 days (4 dogs). Group 3 Reared in high temperature and high humidity for 30 days (5 dogs). All these groups received plasmapheresis and recovery of their serum protein was electrophoretically studied for comparison. In total serum protein, 8 days after plasmapheresis, 106% recovery was noted in group 1, 98% recovery in group 2, and 90% recovery in group 3 as compared with that before the procedure. Albumin content on the same day was 90%, 77% and 71% in Group 1, 2 and 3, respectively as compared with that before plasmapheresis. γ-globulin content on the same day was 107%, 100% and 78% in group 1, 2 and 3, respectively as compared with that before the procedure. It is thought that the decrease in albumin is due to a disturbance of liver function and insufficient protein intake as a result of anorexia caused by high temperature and high humidiy, and that, the decrease in γ-globulin is due to mesenchymal functional disturbances caused by high temperature and high humidity. It has been recognized that the patient with Jusho-Shokafuryosho is in a dysergic condition caused by high temperature and high humidity bnd that his γ-globulin content is low. From this experiment it can be recognized that the hypo-γ-globulinaemia is the consequence of mesenchymal functional disturbances caused by high temperature and high humidity.

By turbidity method, the hyaluronidase activity of the tissue extract and the antihyaluronidase activity of the serum were compared between patients with gastric cancer and gastric ulcer and the following results were obtained: 1. HD-activity of the carcinomatous tissue was much higher than that of binign ulcerous tissue, and anti-HD-activity of the serum in cancer patients was also more increased than that in the patients of gastric ulcer. 2. In general, activities of HD and anti-HD showed the tendency to increase or decrease in parallel with extracellular fluid (Thiocyanate space). 3. HD-activity of the microscopically normal stomach tissue distant from the carcinomatous ulcer was decreased remarkably than that of the carcinomatous tissue. 4. On the carcinomatous ulcer itself. it was recognized that HD activity is little different according to the part or place of the ulcer. 5. The remarkable differences of HD-activity among Borrmann's types were not recognized, but type III and IV showed a little higher activity than that of type I and II. 6. As the result of experiments on dogs, it was confirmed that hyaluronidase increased extracellular fluid and the same action was recognized in the cancerous extract also. 7. In the experimental study on rabbits, it was recognized that hyaluronidase accelerated the diffussion's ability of the pigment in the intracutaneous tissue.

The recent studies on the extracellular fluid in cancer patients have demonstrated a reduced blood volume and an increased interstitial fluid volume. By measurements of the extracellular fluid in patients with gastric cancer and gastric ulcer. I could compare them with the fluid in healthy persons and the following results were obtained: 1. On the extracellular fluid, each of cancer and ulcer patients has an increased volume more than that of healthy persons and the remarkable increase was observed in especially the former and the patients in such poor condition that lost the body weight as much as 12kg. or more than that, but the influence of passage disturbance of the pylorus was not recognized npon the extracellular fluid of gastric cancer. 2. The circulatory plasma volume was also recognized its increase more than the volume of healthy adults. The parallel relation between the plasma volume and the extracellular fluid was not confirmed on the whole except a few cases. 3. On the circulatory blood volume, there was no special difference among them. 4. The cell mass was reduced more in cancer and ulcer patients either than in healthy persons and in cancer patients the reduction was remarkable. 5. The alteration on the extracellular fluid which caused by blood transfusion was very little in a short term. The character of extracellular fluid is very complicated and is very difficult to explain about it, but I can assume that the remarkable increase in cancer patients is caused by the spread of the thiocyanate space.

The method of experiment of acute pancreatic necrosis of dogs and classification of experimental cases were same with the described in Chapter I. The measurement was performed by the following methods Total fatty acid in blood and pancreatic tissue By van de Kamer's method. Total cholesterol of serum: By acetic anhydride method. Value of blood fat: by Kunkel's method.
The following results were obtained: In the serious group, total cholesterol of serum and total fatty acid in blood increased markedly and on many cases, they reached the highest level before their deaths. In the medium and mild group, it was observed that both of them increased and did not reduce to the preoperation value in two or three weeks after the operation. The total fatty acid in the necrotic tissue of diseased pancreas increased as much as 200〜250%, compared with normal Pancreas tissue. In clinical cases, increase of blood fat was observed. I think the significant increase of β globulin of serum protein which described in Chapter II is due to the increase of blood fat.

The method of experiment of acute Pancreatic necrosis of dogs and the classification of experimental cases were same with the described in Chapter I. The measurement of separation percentage of serum protein was performed by the method of solution with Na(2)SO(3) (Yoshikawa-Saito's Method) and by the method of the electrophoretic concentration (Tiselius). The following results were obtained. In the serious group, the decrese of ratio of albumin and globulin and the remarkable increase of the amount of β globulin were observed. On many cases, α and γ globulins decreased but on some of them, α globulin rose again after once it fall down to the lowest level. In the medium and mild groups, ratio of albumin and globulin was markedly decreased, but after one week passed, it bigan to come back to the normal level, however, it improved very gradually. Both of α and γ globulin increased after they had decreased temporarily, but β globulin increased than at the time of the beginning stage of the disease. There was not observed a large difference between values of Na(2)SO(3) method and by Tisolius. In the clinical cases also, the same results as described above were obtained.

The acute pancreatic necrosis of dogs was performed experimentally by injecting olive oil or bile (of the same dog or oxen) into the pancreas through the pancreatic duct. The experimental cases were classified into three groups i.e. (I) SERIOUS, (II) MEDIUM, and (III) MILD. On the cases of the 1st group, bleeding and fatty necrosis were remarkably observed and the dogs usually died within 72 hours after the operation. The dogs of the 3rd group were alive, but only atrophy or edema of pancreas were recognized. The cases of the 2nd group were those whose conditions are considered between those two groups. The examination was performed in the following methods. Specific gravity of whole blood and plasma. by Copper sulfate method. Hematocrite: Anticoagulated blood was sucked into a Wintrob's tube, and was centrifuged by the centrifuge at 3,000 turning per minute for 30 minutes. Total serum protein. By protein refractometer (Hitachi). Blood volumes and serum volumes: By Gregerson's method by using Evans blue, serum was taken in 10 minutes after Evans blue was injected. The following results were obtained On the cases of the serious group, specific gravity of blood and hematocrite's value increased markedly and specific gravity of plasma and total serum protein increased temporarily. Blood volume and serum volume decreased markedly. The dogs of this group were suffered from shocks which caused them died. On those of the medium and mild groups, at the beginning stage of the disease, blood thickening was observed, but after 48 hours passed, there occurred a marked decrease of specific gravity of blood and plasma, hematocrite and total serum protein. And it was not improved easily.

We studied the incorporation of P(32) into the mucoprotein (M. P.) in rat's brain, and obtained the following results 1). The M. P. content and the counts measured with Geiger Mueller's Counter increased under the influences of radioactivity until the fourth day after P(32) injection. 2). The M. P. in healthy rat's brain showed just similar to lecithin a slow turnover. 3). In comparison with control, the M. P. content in rat's brain receiving electroshock convulsion gave rise to marked increase and acceleration of its turnover. 4). The M. P. content in rat's brain submitted to insulinshock treatment decreased, but its turnover accelerated about the ninth day.
