The effects'of ruthenium red (RR) on the K(+) release induced by Cd(2+) and on the binding of Cd(2+) with mitochondrial membrane were examined and the following results were obtained. 1) The K(+) release of mitochondria induced by Cd(2+) was inhibited by the compounds which had the affinity to the Ca(2+)-binding site, in the order of RR, procaine. 2) Binding of Cd(2+) with mitochondrial membrane was inhibited by RR.
