| Abstract | Twenty-two isolates of Pyrenophora teres Drechs. collected from Japanese and Canadian spring barleys were inoculated to 38 barley varieties having various genetic backgrounds. The analysis of variance for the discase ratings showed that there were significant differences both in the virulence of isolates and the resistance of varieties. However, the interaction among isolates and varieties was not statistically significant. Both Finlay-Wilkinson regression analysis and principal component analysis by Additive Main effects and Multiplicative Interaction effects(AMMI)model classified the isolates into three groups,which were different in origins and sympton types. A spot tyte isolate was distinguished from net type isolates by its generally high virulence. A slight pathogenic differentiation was suggested between Japanese and Canadian net type isolates. |

| Abstract | 本研究では、障害者スポーツの中でも最も人気が高く、競技人口の多い競技のうちの１つである車椅子バスケットボール選手を対象にアンケート調査を実施し、競技力向上の手がかりと食生活に関する調査を行い、障害者スポーツ選手のサポート・食生活のあり方について検討することを目的とした。その結果、1)車椅子バスケットボール実施者、競技水準が上がるにつれて年齢は下がっている傾向がみられた、2)車椅子バスケットボール実施理由を「競技志向」、「健康志向」、「きっかけづくり」と3因子に分類したとき「競技志向」と競技水準には有意な相関がみられた、3)「栄養・食生活に関するサポート」と競技水準とについて有意な相関がみられ、競技水準の高いものが栄養・食生活に関する意識が高い傾向がみられた。 |

| Abstract | A promising group of compounds that have a chemopreventive property are isothiocyanates (ITCs). ITCs have been shown to induce apoptosi in various cancer cell lines and experimental rodents. Multiple signaltransduction pathways as well as apoptosis intermediates have been also posturalted. We recently clarified the moleculae mechanism underlying the relationship between cell cycle arrest ad apoptosis induced by benzyl isothiocyanate(BITC), a major ITC compound isolated from papaya. The exposure of cells to BITC resulted in the inhibition of the G2/M progression that coincided with not only hte up-regulated expression of the G2/M cell cycle arrest-regulating genes but also the apoptosis induction. Conversely, treatment with an excessive concentration of BITC resulted in an abortive apoptotic pathway without DNA ladder formation. This commentary will review the biological impact of cell death induction by BITC as well as other ITCs and the involved signal transduction pathways. |
