| Abstract | 「ヤ（病）ム」は､上代以来、主として身体の異変（病気にかかるなど）を表す語である。その動詞形派生語として、「ウラヤム」と「ココロヤム」があげられる。「ウラヤム」は､上代訓読系資料に「妬む」の類義語として､強い「嫉妬」を表していたものの､平安中期頃、意味変化を生じ、「羨望」を表すようになって、現代まで用い続けられてきた。「ココロヤム」は、語構成の通り、「心が病気になったように苦しむ」の意味を表す語であり、中古に少数例のみみられる。一方、それぞれの形容詞形派生語は､「ヤマシ（イ）」のように､動詞形と異なる意味用法を呈するものもあれば、「ウラヤマシ（イ）」「ココロヤマシ（イ）」のように、動詞形とほぼ対応しているものもある。このような相違は、それぞれの語の初出当時の文体や共起表現の作用などによるものである。 |
