| Title Alternative | Canadian Manufacturers and Their Protectionist Movement in the Late Nineteenth Century |

| Abstract | This paper considers the development of Canadian manufacturing interests and manufacturers＇ protectionist movement in the late nineteenth century. As a case, it analyses manufacturers＇ views and activities in connection with the implementations of the Cayley Tariff of 1858, the Galt Tariff of 1859, and the National Policy tariff of 1879. Not until the late 1850s did the protectionist movement start in Canada. This movement was led by Isaac Buchanan, who maintained that Canada should avoid importing industrial goods and instead develop its own manufacturing industry through protective tariffs. In advancing this argument, he proposed that Canada strive to become a ＇manufacturing colony＇ within the British Empire; he also established the Association for the Promotion of Canadian Industry (APCI). In April 1858, APCI held a meeting and submitted a petition for its protective tariff plan to William Cayley, Inspector General of the United Provinces of Canada. The proposed Cayley Tariff and Galt Tariff had two-tier structures, comprising lower tariffs for raw materials and higher tariffs for finished products. These proposed tariffs included protectionist factors that were also supported by APCI. It was after the Great Depression of 1873 that protectionism was raised again. Under the Depression, manufacturers＇ opinions became clearly divided between protectionism and reciprocity with the United States. In order to overcome the disagreement, members of the Executive Committee of the Manufacturers＇ Association of Ontario (MAO), the successor organisation to APCI, linked protectionism with nationalism and regarded the reciprocity as unpatriotic. This contributed to the unification of Canadian producers against the United States. MAO started to support the Conservative party after it added the implementation of protective tariffs to its platform in the late 1870s. W. H. Frazer, the secretary of MAO, established the Dominion National League (DNL), a support organisation for the Conservative that was funded by MAO. The Conservative won in the 1878 general election through the supports of MAO and DNL, and implemented protective tariffs that were known as the ＇National Policy＇. In conclusion, Canadian manufacturers emphasised protecting the national economy against the United States through higher tariffs in the late nineteenth century. On the other hand, they did not intend to separate from the British Empire but rather fortify its economic development within it. |

| Abstract | ドイツにおける学習障害児のための新旧の学校種に焦点を当て，新旧教科書などに基づき， 物理教育の変遷を明らかにした。かつての学習障害児学校，今日の学習障害特別支援学校の 教科・分野の枠組みに対応して，25年程度の隔たりを有している旧教科書は，教科理化（物 理／化学）の第１分冊である物理教科書であり，新教科書は教科事象科の分冊の１つ，物理 分野を含むいわば科学（理科）教科書といえる。章立てなどから，気象，飛行がなくなった こと，始まりが力でなく熱，終わりが電気でなく力に変わったこと，索引からは，７割程度 が消え，６割程度が更新されていること，しかし，物理内における６分野区分間の多少の順 は，新旧でほぼ同じであること，６分野以外は，無視できない割合を占め，技術関係が新旧 ともに大きな位置を占めていること，さらに，事例などからも，変化の一端を，明らかにした。 |

| Abstract | 本研究は，幼稚園や保育園・所などの保育現場で歌われる保育者の歌声を採取し，印象評 価実験と音響分析により，どのような歌声が保育現場にふさわしいのか検討したものである。 音圧，ピッチ，フォルマントの各音響特徴と照らし合わせたところ，安定した基本周波数や ３～４kHz 付近の明確なスペクトルピーク，緩やかな音圧の推移が「美しい」印象を与え ていること，第３フォルマントと第４フォルマントの接近の有無，高周波数帯域でのエネル ギーの濃淡が，個性的な声質に影響を与えていることが示唆された。さらに大学生が判断す る「良い」声と，子どもたちが「歌ってほしい」声との間にかなりの共通点が認められた。 保育者の歌声に関して偏ったプロトタイプが形成されることのないよう，保育現場でのお手 本のあり方について慎重を期すべきであるとの提案をおこなった。 |

| Abstract | The present paper aims at making clear how George Eliot owes a debt in style to Jane Austen in her character portrayal. Taking up Austen’s Emma and Eliot’s Daniel Deronda, we consider the qualities of prose style that are characteristic of the respective writers as seen in these novels. A comparative analysis of their discourses has brought to light a marked tendency on both sides to use negative expressions and the subjunctive. These common traits are surmised to meet an artistic challenge of creating ambiguity in the characters’psychological situations. Eliot, while inheriting Austen’s stylized English, utilizes scientific phraseology to give voice to the human drama in late nineteenth century England. Thus she adds physiological dimensions to what Austen has established. We attempt to prove this point on the basis of discourse analysis. |

| Abstract | This study was aimed to investigate a support program on childcare contents“human relations” (Nishiyama, 2009) intended to intervene in the efficacy of childcare persons in terms of the pressing issue of how to cultivate efficacy in childcare persons in respect to children. Specifically, the program was aimed at bringing about a positive change in recognizing the practicability of the childcare persons in "bringing about the desired changes for cultivating efficacy around children" through measured diagnostic evaluations, setting of target action, and self monitoring. It was aimed at making qualitative improvements in childcare practice by providing increased motivation to the childcare persons. This study reported a section of the results of investigation on the effects of individual execution of the support program. Finally, consideration based on the result was added from the viewpoint of childcare persons support and the research topics in the future were shown. |

| Abstract | This study was investigated that at examining the factor for winning with finding out the tendency of a student woman handball game in recent years ． Analysis was taken as the game of ８ teams of woman bests of the all Japan student handball championship in the 2008 fiscal year in the 2007 fiscal year． The result was as follows． ①In the student woman handball game of top class in recent years， the number of the goals was 26.6 points， the number of shots was 48.7 times， and the number of times of an attack was 67.9 times． In the number of times of an attack， it increased about 10 times per game from 15-year before， and speedy game deployment was developed． ② When it compared between a victory team and a loser team， the significant difference was seen in the number of shots （P< 0.05）， the number of the goals （P< 0.01）， the number of mistakes （P< 0.01）， the attack strike rate （P< 0.01）， the shot strike rate（ P< 0.01）， and the mistake rate（ P< 0.01）． ③ The strike rate of the set play was 28.1% in the loser team 42.1% in the victory team． Moreover， by the victory team， 23.2 %， in the loser team， it is 34.3 % and the significant difference（ P< 0.01） was seen about the rate of failure of the set play． |

| Abstract | マウルブロン時代のヘルダーリンの多くの詩作品には、その後の彼の思想・文学活動を 形作る様々な要素が、その基本形において現われ出ている。『わが想い』（1787）では、洗 練された感性と論理に基づいて、包括的立場から自身の判断の妥当性を言明する、高度な 精神作用が確認され、『荒野にて記す』（1787）では、原初的自然との交感過程の進行に伴っ て、詩人内部において普遍的価値規範の中核が形成されていく具体的様相を見ることがで きる。また『月桂冠』（1788）『名誉心』（1788）『 謙遜』（1788）では、共同体が正常に機能 する為に人間一般が、そして何よりも詩人自身が引き受けねばならないとされる、精神活 動の諸範型が、その対立項と共に厳然と呈示されている。 |

| Abstract | 本稿は大学の授業における下位英語学習者へのe-learning 教材導入の有効性及びその効 果的活用方法を検証し考察するものである。E-learning導入後のTOEICスコア変化と自律 学習アンケート結果を、統制群を用いて比較検証した。その結果、distance learning モデ ルである実験群では、TOEIC スコアに大きな伸びがみられたが、GTEC テストを用いた統 制群では、実験群のような著しい伸びは認められなかった。また、実験群では自律学習の アンケート結果から「意識要因」のMotivation とIdeal-Self の値が微増していることが分 かった。本研究は学内COE 教育支援経費を受けての予備調査であるものの、教員の適切な 指導と助言があれば、下位英語学習者へのdistance learning モデルにおいて効果的に e-learning教材が活用出来ることを示唆している。 |

| Abstract | 本稿ではCEFR のスイス版自己評価チェックリストを使い， 岡山大学の日本語コース 受講者86名を対象に，学期開始後から終了前の約３か月の期間で自己の日本語力の変化を 感じているかどうか，またその変化はどの言語領域において現れるのかを調査した。調査 の結果，初級，中級，中上級の全てのレベルにおいて，学生の自己評価の平均値が学期開 始後より終了前の方が有意に高いという結果が現れた。また，各レベルの全ての領域で終 了前の方が開始時より自己評価の平均値が有意に高く，全ての項目で終了前のほうが開始 時より平均値が高いという結果となった。本調査により，受講生は学期終了時には自己の 日本語力をより肯定的に評価するようになったことが明らかになった。 |

| Abstract | Surviving, thriving, and evolving followed by further noticing, reflecting, and acting are some of the stages a teacher-researcher goes through before, during, and after the study leave experience. Having the opportunity to literally remove oneself from the daily concerns, routines, and habits entrenched in one’s local institutional context for an extended period of time（ e.g., six months） is an experience like no other. Blood donation campaigns call giving blood ‘a gift that keeps on giving’. While the majority of people in our profession do carry on with their work quite well without ever going on a study leave （or donating blood）, an important revelation that I have had is: a study leave is also ‘a gift that keeps on giving’. |
