| Abstract | 石井十次は、明治時代に岡山孤児院を設立し、孤児救済を実践したプロテスタントであり篤志家である。社会保障も確立していない明治時代の下層社会は、これらの民間人の事前事業により支えられていたといっても過言ではない。石井は慶應元年、宮崎に生まれる。その後明治15年、岡山縣甲種医学校で医学を、そして、岡山教会でキリスト教を学ぶために岡山へ遊学する。石井は医学を学び、信仰によりプロテスタンティズムを深めていくなかで、偶然に貧児と出会い、医師を目指す傍らで孤児救済に関わり始める。このような経過のなかで、石井は孤児救済へとまい進していくのだが、この背景には天職観があり、これが大きな原動力となっていた。そこで本論文の目的は、石井を孤児救済にまい進させた天職観に注目し、この思想の成立について考察することにある。天職観が形成される過程を考察することは、石井における孤児救済の原点を知ることであり、石井が孤児救済にまい進したのか、その答えを探す一つの手がかりになると考える |
