中学校の ｢職場体験｣ を生かした複数教科横断的なキャリア教育の開発－教科学習と学校生活,社会生活のレリバンス構築を目指して－

Abstract キャリア教育として中学校の職場体験活動はほぼすべての学校で実施されている。本稿はその事前指導，事後指導を通して，職場体験と学校で学ぶ教科，学校生活，社会生活を生徒にとって意味あるつながりの構築を目指して行った実践の紹介である。具体的には，教職免許を持つ 6 名の大学院生が，それぞれの専門性を生かして教科の専門性と働くことと生活がつながっていることを，中学校 2 年生の職場体験の事後指導Ⅰとしてポスターセッションで伝えた。事後指導 2 時間目では，生徒は働くことと生活と教科のつながりを可視化するマップを作成して意見交換をした。これらの活動の成果は，生徒が記入した授業の振り返りを分類することで確認した。その結果，授業実践者がねらったつながりに気づいたと思われる記述が多く見られた。中でも多かったのは，将来に備えて今後の勉学や努力したいという趣旨の回答であった。

Abstract Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) in juvenile patients is often an extensive and aggressive disease with a high frequency of recurrence. However, the prognosis is excellent, with a low mortality rate even when advanced disease is present, although prognostic factors and treatment strategy remain uncertain. Between April 2004 and March 2017, 33 juvenile patients (< 30 years old) were diagnosed with DTC and treated at our institution. We retrospectively investigated prognosis and factors including sex, reason for discovery, treatment, pathological factors and treatment progress to clarify the risk factors. All patients underwent curative surgical treatment. Pathologically, lymph node metastasis was identified in 25 patients (75%). Thirteen patients (39%) had bilateral cervical metastasis. In addition, 9 (27%) had more than 10 metastatic lymph nodes. The 2 patients with more than 20 metastatic lymph nodes were treated with radioactive iodine (RAI). Five patients (15%) had local recurrences and received surgery. There have been no further recurrences or deaths. However, no factors were determined to significantly predict the recurrence of juvenile DTC. Local recurrent disease was treated with surgery and/or RAI until remission, and survival was excellent in juvenile DTC.

The Efficacy of Software to Help Patients Understand Drug for Adjuvant Treatment for Breast Cancer: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract We assessed the usefulness of ChemoCalc, a software package for calculating drug costs, in helping patients understand these costs. We randomly assigned, in a 1 : 1 ratio, 20 women who had undergone surgery for early breast cancer to a group that discussed adjuvant treatment with their physicians using the ChemoCalc software (ChemoCalc group) or a group that discussed adjuvant treatment without ChemoCalc (Usual Explanation group). The participants completed a five-grade evaluation questionnaire after these discussions. The primary endpoint was the intergroup comparison of the questionnaire scores regarding participants’ understanding of their treatment-associated drug costs. Median age was not significantly different between the ChemoCalc group and Usual Explanation group (57 vs. 50, respectively; p=0.27). Patients in the ChemoCalc group had a significantly higher perceived level of understanding of the drug cost than those in the Usual Explanation group (5 [4-5] vs. 2.5 [1-5], respectively; p=0.002). Scores related to the patients’ perception that understanding drug costs is an important part of breast cancer treatment were also higher in the ChemoCalc group than the Usual Explanation group (5 [2-5] vs. 3 [1-5], respectively; p=0.049). ChemoCalc was found to be useful for understanding drug costs.

Abstract This article delineates a faculty-led study abroad program that has been conducted for 15 years by a special needs education (SNE) teacher preparation program in Japan. A description of the content and context of the program is followed by a series of observations made by study abroad participants during site visits in the United States of America (U.S.). Finally, suggestions are proposed for how participants’ observations may be used to help them review the values and beliefs embedded in SNE practices in Japan in a way that sublates contradicting values and beliefs between the U.S. and Japan as a means of developing better practices in Japan.
