Abstract | This study is a part of the activity to develop an interdisciplinary lesson plan for high school students on the climate environment around Japan and the "seasonal feeling". This time, we focused our attention to the asymmetric seasonal march from autumn to the next spring as proposed by Kato et al. (2013). Comparison of the climate between early winter and early spring was made in the class not only on that around the Japan but also on the relation to the larger-scale systems such as the Siberian air mass, including the brief data analysis. The students also compared the detailed "seasonal feeling" between the two seasons expressed in the school songs and the Japanese classic poems called "Wa-Ka". This paper reports the contents and results of this joint activity at the two high schools. |

Abstract | The Kibi Plateau was a part of the Eurasian Continent and separated by the event of opening of Japan Sea. The rounded pebble which is considered to be continental origin was discovered. The pebble is siliceous and attracts magnets. Prepared thin-sections were observed under microscope. Selected minerals were analyzed by EPMA. The rock is composed of recrystallized quartz, magnetite, riebeckite, stilpnomelane and associated with very tiny minerals with very high relief and interference colors. The assemblage suggests that there is a possibility that the rock is a metamorphic rock of iron-formations and derived from continent. |

Abstract | There is no assistive device for extramedullary surgery coordinated with 3D surgical assistive software for the total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We developed a novel extramedullary universal guide coordinated with 3D surgical assistive software and a novel extramedullary patient-specific assistive guide for the placement of femoral components by referring to an area not affected by cartilage or bone spurs, and filed a patent application. In this study, we visualize and reconstruct the total alignment of the lower extremity in TKA using these surgical devices, and validate their precision. A report releasing study results will be submitted in an appropriate journal. |

Abstract | This trial enrolls patients with untreated Hodgkin’s lymphoma aged<20 years at diagnosis and examines the effects of omitting radiation therapy if the FDG-positron emission tomography (PET) findings after two completed cycles of combination chemotherapy are negative. It thereby aims to determine whether patients who truly require radiation therapy can be identified by FDG-PET. If so, this modality could be used to omit radiation therapy for all other patients, decreasing the risk of serious long-term complications without affecting survival rates. The outcomes of patients for whom FDG-PET is used to assess early treatment response will also be determined. |

Abstract | Crizotinib is an inhibitor of multiple tyrosine kinases, including the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). Responses to crizotinib have also been reported in patients with ALK-positive anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) and solid tumors with ALK-mutation, including neuroblastoma. Optimal treatment for patients with recurrent or refractory ALK-positive ALCL and neuroblastoma has not been established. There is a need to develop new drugs for these patients. The objectives of this trial are to evaluate the tolerability and safety of crizotinib in Japanese patients with recurrent/refractory ALK-positive ALCL or neuroblastoma (phase I) and its efficacy in recurrent/refractory ALK-positive ALCL (phase II). |
