This study assessed the knowledge and understanding of genetics and hereditary cancer among college students who received cancer education in Japan. The study subjects were students from fields such as education, medicine, law, and economics who participated during the period from February to December 2023. The students attended in-person lectures on genomic medicine, and they were then asked to complete an anonymous survey via Google Forms. Over 90％ of the participants reported understanding the content of the lectures, and >80％ indicated that they found the lecture's content understandable at a junior high school level. Over 60％ felt that the appropriate time to begin such education would be in late elementary or junior high school. These results indicate a high level of acceptance of hereditary cancer education among young people. However, challenges remain in their understanding of the roles of genetic factors in cancer development and the mechanisms by which inheritance and phenotype are manifested. We measured the subjects' titers of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, evaluated changes in their antibody titers, and assessed the associations of the titers with the subjects' vaccination status, infection, and COVID-19 status/severity. This report summarizes the two studies' findings. Semi-structured interviews using interview guides were conducted with 12 occupational therapists, and the qualitative data were analyzed inductively. From 79 descriptive codes, 33 interpretive codes were generated and grouped into 12 subcategories. These were further classified into five main categories : ‘letter neatness,’ ‘tool operability, postural optimization,’ ‘practical utility of writing,’ and ‘autonomy in writing.’ These results revealed that the occupational therapists observed improvements in handwriting from a multifaceted perspective, including not only the patients' motor skills but also psychological and behavioral aspects. The findings of this study capture the contents of occupational therapists' observations regarding the process of the early improvement of left-hand writing, and the insights suggest that, in supporting left-hand writing for stroke patients with right hemiplegia — among whom it is necessary to grasp changes within a limited intervention period — these observations are potentially useful for occupational therapists to assess handwriting improvement and provide support, regardless of their years of experience.No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was Clinical research is crucial for the advancement of medicine, but modern otolaryngologists' attitudes regarding clinical research have not been known. This study was conducted to survey the background, knowledge, and interest in clinical research among junior and mid-career otolaryngologists.<br>
Methods : A questionnaire survey was distributed to 34 otolaryngologists with ≤15 years' clinical experience working at Okayama University and its affiliated facilities. The respondents were divided into junior (non-specialists) and mid-career otolaryngologists (specialists) based on whether they were board-certified otolaryngologists. The survey assessed their background, understanding, and interest in clinical research.<br>
Results : Twenty-nine otolaryngologists (83%) responded (10 junior and 19 mid-career otolaryngologists). There was significant individual variation in their interest and knowledge of clinical research. However, approximately half of the respondents indicated that they were not interested in and/or had never engaged in clinical research.<br>

Here, we analyzed the effects of women's parity on the association between evacuation and psychological distress, trauma reactions, and cardiovascular disease (CVD).<br>
Participants and Methods : The participants were residents living in 13 municipalities in the evacuation zone of Japan's Fukushima Prefecture after the March 11, 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake who responded to the Fukushima Health Management Survey in FY2012. A total of 30,709 women aged 40-90 years were included in the analyses. We performed a logistic regression analysis to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) adjusted for CVD risk factors.<br>
Results : A multivariate analysis revealed that among the parous women (n = 19,608), evacuation was associated with psychological distress (adjusted OR 1.30, 95%CI : 1.17-1.44), trauma reactions (OR 1.22, 95%CI : 1.11-1.35), and heart disease (OR 1.14, 95%CI : 1.03-1.26) compared to the non-evacuation status. Among the nulliparous women (n = 1,794), there was no association between the evacuation and any outcomes.<br>

The EESR comprises the Scale of Shared Experiences (SSE) and the Scale of Insufficient Sharing Experience (SISE) ; the JSE comprises Perspective Taking, Compassionate Care, and Standing in the Patient's Shoes.<br>
The total JSE scores and the Perspective Taking subfactor scores tended to be higher in fourth-year students, who also showed SISE scores significantly lower than those of students with fewer years of nursing study. Relationship analysis showed a moderate positive correlation between SSE scores and Perspective Taking scores. There was a weak negative correlation between SISE and Standing in the Patient's Shoes scores. Compassionate Care scores were not significantly related to SSE or SISE scores. On the fourth day of the first treatment course, he developed a fever, followed by watery diarrhea exceeding 10 episodes per day and bloody stools the next day. Immunotherapy-related adverse event colitis was diagnosed through CT scans and colonoscopy examinations. Despite the ineffectiveness of systemic steroid administration, prompt alleviation of symptoms was achieved through the administration of infliximab. In our case, the patient developed Grade 3 diarrhea, prompting the initiation of intravenous prednisolone at 80mg/day in accordance with guidelines. However, symptom improvement was not attained. In situations where symptoms persist beyond three days despite systemic steroid administration, the consideration of adjunctive infliximab use at a dosage of 5mg/kg becomes necessary.No potential of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic that began in 2019 is yet to end, as of the summer of 2022. During the pandemic, community-acquired infections spread easily to healthcare-associated facilities, resulting in COVID-19 clusters among high-risk individuals that have been difficult to contain. Our regional base hospital also experienced a nosocomial cluster of COVID-19 in October 2020 that took 30 days to contain and affected 9 hospital staff and 14 patients. Six patients died due to COVID-19, and six died due to COVID-19-related complications. Two patients were discharged alive. Patient characteristics included ① advanced age (79.0±8.1 years), ② dementia (64.3%), ③ low Prognostic Nutrition Index (31.1 ±7.9), ④ zinc deficiency (50.2±13.1μg/dL), ⑤ vitamin C deficiency (1.6±1.9μg/mL), ⑥ elevated urea nitrogen-to-creatinine ratio (27.4±23.5), ⑦ anticancer and immunosuppressive drug use (78.6%), and ⑧ malignancy (75.6%). This cluster had a very high mortality rate, but the viral spread was contained in a short period. Algorithmizing the cluster response was crucial to controlling this cluster. Thus, it is extremely important to release patients from isolation efficiently in order to maintain stable bed operations. However, in clinical practice, patients may develop fever again, before or after the timing specified by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) for lifting isolation, and hence it may be difficult to determine whether the fever is due to a delay in recovery or due to relapse. The diagnosis of relapse is based primarily on the recurrence of symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and a positive PCR result, but few reports have focused on comparing the patterns of variation in two or more blood test findings over the course of the disease. In the present study, we study a case of relapse in an elderly patient on immunosuppressive drugs.<br>

At the age of 56, her rheumatoid arthritis worsened and a subcutaneous injection of tocilizumab and oral prednisolone was administered, which led to an improvement of arthritis. At the age of 57, right lower abdominal pain and vomiting suddenly appeared. Abdominal computed tomography showed a parapapillary diverticulum in the descending duodenum. The diverticulum was filled with residue, and an inflammation of the surrounding adipose tissue was observed; no free air was found. The patient was diagnosed with duodenal diverticulitis and treated with antibiotics, which resulted in an uneventful recovery. The maximum value of CRP was 1.88㎎/dL on the third day of hospitalization. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy performed on the 8th day of hospitalization revealed a parapapillary diverticulum with adhesion of pus and redness of the mucosa at the opening of the diverticulum, consistent with diverticulitis. This case highlights that diverticulitis in infrequent areas such as the duodenum may occur in patients who are treated with tocilizumab. In this study, we conducted a descriptive analysis to investigate the differences in symptoms and severity during each epidemic period. We analyzed a total of 31,037 patients with COVID-19 who were reported to the Okayama City Public Health Center between February 1, 2020 and March 31, 2022. We described and compared the proportion of symptoms, the number and proportion of severe COVID-19 cases, and the number and proportion of deaths for each epidemic period. We also compared the proportion of severe COVID-19 cases depending on the number of vaccinations for the 5th and 6th waves.<br>
Differences in symptoms and severity were observed in each epidemic period. be contained. The Japanese government has taken measures against the occurrence of clusters. However, there has little evaluation of the occurrence of the clusters and their changes. Therefore, we investigated the occurrence of the clusters in medical institutions and elderly care facilities in Okayama Prefecture.<br>
We compared the characteristics of the clusters that occurred in each of the wave between October 21, 2020, and September 30, 2021, by using the data published that interval. As a case study, we also evaluated the characteristics of positive patients at a medical institution over where a cluster occurred in case the fourth wave.<br>
The overall number of cluster outbreaks decreased with the spread of vaccination. In the fourth wave, there was a period in which the vaccination of staff members at medical institutions became widespread, while patients or facility users were unvaccinated, resulting in a longer convergence period and an increase in the number of positive cases among patients relative to the number of staff members.<br>

We developed a 26-item preliminary scale through discussions with experts in gender dysphoria treatment. We administered a questionnaire including this scale to 1,010 nurses working at Okayama University Hospital and analyzed the data of 346 nurses who had been involved in the treatment of gender dysphoria and had no missing responses.<br>
A total of 20 items consisting of two factors, “relationship building” and “negative emotion for gender dysphoria,” were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, and we used them in the final version of the scale. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the entire scale was 0.879, indicating a high degree of internal consistency.<br>
However, the correlations with a communication skills scale (ENDCOREs) and the Scale of Gender Conception were limited, and the external validity could not be proven. The histopathological analysis of the biopsied specimen led to the diagnosis of duodenal-type follicular lymphoma. The lesion showed spontaneous improvement ; however, 14 months later a few small whitish granules were observed by esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Observation under magnification revealed slightly elevated opaque white spots and whitish granular protrusions of roughly the same size that were uniformly distributed in the duodenal bulb. The duodenal bulb lesions were histopathologically diagnosed as lymphoid hyperplasia. The patient also exhibited lymphangiectasia (which presented as scattered white spots) and lymphangioma (which presented as a soft submucosal tumor with white spots on the surface) in the second portion of the duodenum. This patient presented with four white lesions in the duodenum : duodenal-type follicular lymphoma, lymphoid hyperplasia, lymphangiectasia, and lymphangioma. The Early Warning Score (EWS) helps to estimate mortality risk in emergency patients. The National EWS (NEWS) is a bedside score of six routine vital parameters. Few studies have compared qSOFA and NEWS in detecting suspected sepsis in cancer patients, so we compared them as a Sepsis-3 prognostic tool. [Methods] This is a retrospective observational single-center study. The study population consisted of cancer patients who entered the intensive care unit (ICU) between 2014 and 2016 for Sepsis-1 (based on systemic inflammatory response syndrome [SIRS] criteria). We calculated and compared the sensitivity and specificity of qSOFA and NEWS. We performed a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis of NEWS in the diagnosis of Sepsis-3. [Results] Of the 62 patients admitted to the ICU for Sepsis-1, 42 had Sepsis-3. For qSOFA, sensitivity was 0.71 and specificity was 0.75. Exploratory analysis using the Youden index suggested that 9 may be the optimal score for NEWS. The sensitivity and specificity of NEWS at 9 points were 0.81 and 0.95, respectively.
