Abstract Advection-Aridity(AA) model can calculate actual evapotranspiration by using only meteorological data. However, comparing the model with Penman equation showed that AA model doesn’t properly evaluate evapotranspiration from urban moisture area. In urban area, Actual evaporation from water calculated by AA model(E) are much less than that by Penman equation(Epo). Multiple regression analysis using estimation results indicates that the difference between the models is due to the difference of the sensitivity to vapor pressure deficit between the models. To improve this problem, modification coefficient k, defined as k=a・albedo+b, is suggested. Regression coefficients a, b are determined as satisfying k=Epo/E for water and k=1 for urban surface. By using this coefficient k, evaporation from water is nearly equal to value estimated by Penman equation, while evaporation from urban surface is changeless.

Abstract The present study mainly studied some properties of retail stores on the central shopping streets in Okayama City while looking back on the transition of the commerce. Second, we investigated the actual conditions of most retail stores in Omote-cho in terms of the questionnaire survey. Third, we considered the problems and measures on retail stores, a little. The charm of the central shopping streets has decreased relatively in Okayama City due to the advancement of a large-scale stores and the location competition of convenience stores. The number of empty stores has increased and the amount of the pedestrian traffic, the value of sales, and the number of retail stores have shown the decreasing tendency in eight commercial blocs in Omote-cho. Therefore, the unique features in Omote-cho should be polished while esteeming the history and the culture. The charm and/or the atmosphere of traditional commercial blocs is requested to be created while sending new informations that continue to create young person's fashion and culture.

Title Alternative Validation of Dollar cost averaging investment method
FullText URL fest_016_001_005.pdf
Author Touji, Masayuki| Fueda, Kaoru|
Abstract As a method of long term investment for private investor, the dollar cost averaging investment method is well known and seems to reduce the purchase cost because we purchase risk assets with same amount of monye every month, then we purchase many assets when the price of assets is low and few assets when the price is high. On the other hand, if the expectation of the return of the risk assets is positive, we have the maximum expectation of return when we purchase the risk assets with all of money to invest. To reduce the risk of investment, diversified investments are effective. However question whehter we use the dollar cost averaging investment method or investe money all at once to well-diversified risk assets remains. In this study, we validate the effecte of the ddollar cost averaging investment method by Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract Recently, pairing–based cryptographies have attracted much attention. For fast pairing calculation, not only pairing algorithms but also arithmetic operations in extension field should be efficient. Especially for final exponentiation included in pairing calculation, squaring is more important than multiplication. This paper considers squaring algorithms efficient for cubic extension field which is often used for pairing implementaions.

Abstract Recently, composite order pairing–based cryptographies have received much attention. The composite order needs to be as large as the RSA modulus. Thus, they require a certain pairing–friendly elliptic curve that has such a large composite order. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm for generating an ordinary pairing–friendly elliptic curve of the embedding degree 1 whose order has two large prime factors as the RSA modulus. In addition, the generated pairing–friendly curve has an efficient structure for the Gallant–Lambert–Vanstone (GLV) method.

Abstract We describe in detail the algorithm of bundle adjustment for 3-D reconstruction from multiple images based on our latest research results. The main focus of this paper is on the handling of camera rotations and the efficiency of computation and memory usage when the number of variables is very large; an appropriate consideration of this is the core of the implementation of bundle adjustment. Computing the fundamental matrix from two views and reconstructing the 3-D structure from multiple views, we evaluate the performance of our algorithm and discuses technical issues of bundle adjustment implementation.

Abstract We present a new least squares (LS) estimator, called “HyperLS”, specifically designed for parameter estimation in computer vision applications. It minimizes the algebraic distance under a special scale normalization, which is derived by rigorous error analysis in such a way that statistical bias is removed up to second order noise terms. Numerical experiments suggest that our HyperLS is far superior to the standard LS and comparable in accuracy to maximum likelihood (ML), which is known to produce highly accurate results in image applications but may fail to converge if poorly initialized. Our HyperLS is a perfect candidate for ML initialization. In addition, we discuss how image-based inference problems have different characteristics form conventional statistical applications, with a view to serving as a bridge between mathematicians and computer engineers.

Abstract This paper presents a method of the controller design for the handling machine by using dsPIC(Digital Signal Processor + Peripheral Interface Controller). Recently, many manufacturing robots are operated in manufacturing facilities, with the aim of labor, cost saving, and improvement of the productivity. Such robots need to have positioning performance of high precision and simultaneously to save cost. In this paper, a digital optimal servo controller is designed, and it is implemented into our barebones controller which involves dsPIC. We have designed and manufactured the controller which is added suitable peripherals to improve the consistency between the mechanical machine operating in continuous time and controller in discrete time. The significance of this research is that digital implementation of the embedded system which has performance-limitation has ensured a comparable result, against the one with PC which has broad utility. When it is used as a controller, it is possible to restrain product prices greatly equivalent PC precision. We demonstrate potential that good control can be achieved even with low cost. Our research has lead to the viability of lower cost and higher performance system for the production process at factories.

Title Alternative On the New Academic Achievements concerning the Historical Studies on the Iron and Steel Industry in Northeast China Attained by T. Matsumoto
FullText URL oer_030_4_167_183.pdf
Author Matsumoto, Toshiro|
Abstract This paper is aimed at summing up T. Matsumoto's recent academic achievements regarding Anshan Iron & Steel Co. in northeast China. The important facts raised therein are as follows. AISC rapidly recovered its facilities in the first half of 1950s. The production level of AISC resumed its maximum prewar level between 1952 to 1954. How was it possible to restore the equipment which had been heavily damaged from the WWII and the Chinese Civil War in such a short period? A marvelous reconstruction of AISC in 'Three Year Reconstruction Period' after 1949 was a result realized by the combination of many factors: (1) exceptional enthusiasm for reconstruction among young Chinese engineers and workers who were sent to Anshan and trained there; (2) the flexible man power policy of Eight Route Army controlling their hostile emotion to the ex-enemies, pursuing the latest and rational know-how, and challenging to create a new steel production technology; (3) availability and cooperation of the Japanese and the ex-Nationalist Chinese engineers; (4) remaining equipments and captured documents; (5) experience and skills ofremaining Chinese workers. With all these five factors combined, AISC dramatically recovered its facility, and restored its prewar level in a few years.

Title Alternative The Japanese Companies' Problems in Global Competitions
FullText URL oer_031_3_087_112.pdf
Author Tomae, Hisao|
Abstract Japanese companies that practice the Japanese style management have pursued scale merit profits by mass production of stand-alone goods and had stronger competitiveness than US companies in '80 s. US companies, especially, cannot follow the overlapping development practicing which the Japanese companies have started. In '90 s, however, US companies have begun the overlapping development practicing by using telecommunication and information technology, and furthermore they do it interorganizationally among firms. As the results, US firms have stronger competitiveness than Japanese firms in the high-tech fields of system goods industries. Japanese companies have to be divided into two groups. One is stand-alone goods industries in which they operate mass production as before. Another is system goods industries in which they must unlearn the past success experiences and have to promote new innovation system. At the same time, they need to change the strategy in global business in the case that they belong to system goods industries. In Global Industries, Bartlett and Ghoshal insist on the 'transnational solution', but it should be noted that their theory is based on the study of stand-alone goods industries. We believe that the virtual corporation has more competitiveness than the transnational organization in system goods industries.

Abstract Plain X-ray radiography is frequently used for the diagnosis of developmental dislocation of the hip (DDH). The aim of this study was to construct a diagnostic support system for DDH based on clinical findings obtained from the X-ray images of 154 female infants with confirmed diagnoses made by orthopedists. The data for these subjects were divided into 2 groups. The Min-Max method of nonlinear analysis was applied to the data from Group 1 to construct the diagnostic support system based on the measurement of 4 items in X-ray images:the outward displacement rate, upward displacement rate, OE angle, and alpha angle. This system was then applied to the data from Group 2, and the results were compared between the 2 groups to verify the reliability of the system. We obtained good results that matched the confirmed diagnoses of orthopedists with an accuracy of 85.9%.
