| Abstract | Questionnaire surveys are a prevalent method in applied linguistics for investigating complex constructs, such as learner beliefs. However, their complex nature often creates overly lengthy instruments, making them impractical for classroom use or for obtaining timely educational insights. This study aimed to develop a simplified, yet robust version of an existing learner belief scale to address these challenges. The authors carefully selected 24 belief-specific items from an initial pool of 78 items from a previous study for use in an online survey, which was completed by 246 participants. The data were subject to exploratory factor analysis. This process resulted in a concise 12-item scale, could offer a more practical tool for language educators.
