In 25.6 per cent of the patients in Stage Ⅰ an abnormally low pH of under 6.2 can be observed, showing a significant difference as compared with the normal non-pregnant women; but as the percentage is low, it can not be so useful for an early diagnosis. 2) In 9.6 per cent of those whose improvement is good at follow-up examinations after treatment such an abnormally low pH can be found, and in them pH returns to the normal level only after one year. In 33.3 per cent of those whose prognosis is poor, an abnormally low pH value can be recognized. In the follow-up examinations successively abnormally low pH can be found in 8.0 per cent of those with a good improvement, and in 66.6 per cent of those with a poor improvement. Sixty per cent of those showing abnormally low pH successively are those with a poor prognosis. 3) The amount of whole protein in the saliva of patient with cervical carcinoma shows a slight increase over 46.2 mg/dl in the case of normal non-pregnant women. Statistically a significant difference at 79.0 mg/dl can only be recognized in those at Stage Ⅳ. As for the percentage of those showing as abnormally high as 72.26 mg/dl, 28.9 per cent of those in Stage Ⅱ show abnormally high value as compared with normal non-pregnant women, but it has little value for diagnosis. 4) An increase in whole protein can be recognized in the anemic patient showing sahli value of under 59 per cent. 5) No significant difference can be recognized in the protein fractions of the saliva in the patients with cervical carcinoma as compared with normal non-pregnant women. From these data it is assumed that the evaluations of the whole protein content and protein fractions in the saliva are not so useful as an auxiliary diagnosis of cervical carcinoma, but the continuous follow-up estimations of pH of the saliva for the purpose of discovering the recurrence of cervical carcinoma at an early stage enable us to foresee it, and such follow-up examinations will offer us an important criterion for the judging of the conditions after treatment. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=KawadaKenji en-aut-sei=Kawada en-aut-mei=Kenji kn-aut-name=河田謙二 kn-aut-sei=河田 kn-aut-mei=謙二 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部産科婦人科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=3029 end-page=3040 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=The Irradiation Susceptibility of Cervical Carcinoma, with a Special Reference to the Metastasis to Lymph Nodes kn-title=子宮頸癌の放射線感受性に関する研究 特に転移淋巴節に就いて en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=Preoperative roentgen-irradiation (unilaterally 1-12 times) treatment was given to 216 cases with cervical carcinoma, and 24 hours after the completion of irradiation Okabayashi's radical extensive hysterectomy was performed. The author studied the irradiation susceptibility of metastased cancer cells by comparing the original site of cancer with metastased lesions and the metastatic irradiated side with non-irradiated side, with a special emphasis on the mitosis of cancer cells. As for the significance between C.P.L. type (Imai) of the primary cancer and the metastatic foci, the change in the mitotic picture due to roentgen irradiation in C-type metastatic foci is significantly greater than that in L-type metastatic foci; and therefore, the irradiation susceptibility in C-type can be said higher. Namely, in this instance the irradaation susceptibility and the prognosis have the same tendency. As for the relationship between Nagase's classification (Types Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ) of the primary cancer and its metastatic foci, the change in mitotic picture due to roentgen irradiation in the case of Type Ⅱ metastatic focus is greater than in Type Ⅰ metastatic focus, and the irradiation susceptibility in Type Ⅱ tends to be higher. In other words, in this instance the irradiation susceptibility is in no way associated with the prognosis. Therefore, it is dangerous to deduce the prognosis from the irradiation susceptibility of cancer cells. Numbers of giant cells appearing due to irradiation increase in proportion to the degree of the destruction of the cancer focus irradiated upon. Therefore, in the observation of dividing cells in the irradiated cancer focus, it is essential to pay attention not only to the change in the number of cells but also to the variety of the degeneration picture. The degree of degeneration in dividing cells increases in propoetion to the irradiation amount, and by a irradiation more than 1,300 r (deep dosis) the mitotic picture changes markedly, thus bringing about the cell disintegration. On applying an irradiation tube on the anterior surface, its lower margin is placed just above the pubic symphysis, and its inner margin is about 2 cm. outside the medial line; and on applying it on the posterior or lateral side, its lower margin is placed on both greater trochanters; and from the posterior side it is irradiated at the angle 20℃ to the side of the head. In other words, it is believed that main lymph nodes in the pelvis are almost all equally irradiated by irradiation at the sites mentioned above. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=OmuraMakio en-aut-sei=Omura en-aut-mei=Makio kn-aut-name=大村真喜雄 kn-aut-sei=大村 kn-aut-mei=真喜雄 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部産科婦人科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=3013 end-page=3027 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=The Infiltration of the Cervical Carcinoma into the Vaginal Wall and the Relationship between the Cancer Infiltration into the Vaginal Wall and the Recurrence at the Vaginal Stump Section Ⅰ. In the present study the author carried out histological investigations of the vaginal wall of the patients who had Okabayashi's radical extensive hysterectomy in our clinic; and in Section Ⅰ are presented the results of investigations on the manner of cancer invasion into the vaginal wall in 160 recent unselected cases, and in Section Ⅱ the relationship between the recurrence at the vaginal stump and the vaginal-wall invasion as well as prophylactic effect of concomitant use of radium on the recurrence at the vaginal stump are described concerning 102 older specimens. Section 1. As for the invasion of the cervical carcinoma 62 cases (38.8%) out of 160 cases have been verified to have the cancer invasion, and there are some differences between the macroscopic and histological findings; and even in the 39 cases whose findings coincide with one another, in about one third of them the cancer invasion has been found 5 mm deeper in the histological examination than in the macroscopic examination. Next, the incidence of the cancer invasion into the vaginal wall is greater in more advanced age; more in the cervical canal cancer than cancer in the vaginal portion; more frequeut in Stage Ⅱ than in Stage Ⅰ; in a retrocessive type of growth; in the case where the outward appearance of the lesion is ulcerous; in the C.P.L. classification more in L-type; and more in the case where the cancer propagated to the endometrium than in the case without such apropagation; likewise in the case where the cancer propagated to the corpus uterus; and more frequent in the case with lymph node metastasis. As for the incidence of the cancer infiltration to various layers of the vaginal wall, the epidermal infiltration, the epidermal + submucous tissue, and the epidermal + submucous + muscular layers occupy two thirds of the total, and as for the invasion of each layer it is slightly more frequent in the epidermal layer. No difference can be observed in the frequency of the cancer invasion as regrads the sites of the vaginal wall (anterior, posterior, right, and left), and the cancer infiltration into the vaginal wall is always contiguous. Section Ⅱ. As regards the relationship between the cancer invasion into the vaginal wall and the recurrence at the stump of the vagina, out of 47 cases with recurrence 35 cases (74.4%) proved to have infiltration into the vaginal wall, and 8 cases had the cancer invasion penetrated as far as the vaginal stump. In those that had the recurrence at the vaginal stump the majority of them consisted of the vaginal cancer, cancer of Stage Ⅱ and Ⅲ, ulcerous exterior appearance, retrocessive type of growth, L Type, and moderately matured type. In comparing the 35 recurrent cases having the cancer invasion into the vaginal wall with those cases without recurrence at the vaginal stump, it has been clarified that the recurrence at the vaginal stump is more liable to occur in Type L with the vaginal-wall invasion and in the case whose distance between the tip of the infiltration and the stump end is less than 5 mm. Moreover, for the prevention of the recurrence at the vaginal stump taking the data in Section I into consideration, for the cases without vaginal-wall infiltration the conventional 3 cm-resection of the vaginal wall is indicated, while for the cases with vaginal-wall infiltration it is necessary to resect the vaginal wall over 1.8 cm. below the tip of macroscopic infiltration in view of the shrinkage of the specimens examined and the fact that histologically the infiltration goes deeper than macroscopic finding. In addition, when the cancer infiltration is marked and there is a danger of recurrence it is possible to prevent such a recurrence by radium therapy. In our laboratory the proximal dosage of radium used is 1,000 mg elh. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=SimizuSyoji en-aut-sei=Simizu en-aut-mei=Syoji kn-aut-name=清水昭爾 kn-aut-sei=清水 kn-aut-mei=昭爾 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部産科婦人科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=3001 end-page=3011 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=A Study on the Irradiation Susceptibility of Cervical Carcinoma kn-title=子宮頸癌の放射線感受性に就いて en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=Since Broders and Martzlff's report on the relation of irradiation susceptibility of the cervical carcinoma with the prognosis, there appeared many studies on the same subject by various investigators. And with the recent reports on the C.P.L. classification and Nagase's classification it has become clearly established that there is a close relationship between the irradiation susceptibility and prognosis. In the present paper are presented the results of observations on histological changes, especially changes in the mitotic picture and the appearance of giant cells, in the tissue specimens prepared before and after irradiation from 205 operable cases with cervical carcinoma, who had been treated with irradiation (mainly bard roentgen and some by radium irradiation) and then operated on by Okabayashi's method during the periodfrom August 1956 to December 1957, and also presented are comparative studies of these results with the CPL classification and Nagase's classification. 1) The histological changes turn generally markedly with incresed amount of radiation, but the change observable in each individual case reveals a marked individualistic difference, yet showing not necessarily any parallelism in the histologicai change with the amount of radiation within the surface dosis of 3,600 r. 2) No specific relationship exists between the histological change and the C.P.L. classification or Nagase's classification. 3) As for the change in the mitotic picture, the normal mitosis is rapidly diminished by irradiation, finally disappearing completely with the increase in the amount of radiation, while on the contrary abnormal mitosis is markedly enhanced by irradiation. 4) As for the relationship between the change in the mitotic picture and the C.P.L. classification, in the case given six roentgen irradiations (surface dosis of 1,800 r.) there is no significant relationship, but in the cases given 12 rounds of irradiation (surface dosis of 3,600 r.) the change in Type C is greater than that in Type L. 5) As regrads the relationship between the chang in the mitotic picture and Nagase's classification, no specific relationship can be recgonized in the cases administered with 6 rounds of irradiation an increase in the appearance of abnormal mitosies in Type Ⅰ is more pronounced than that in Type Ⅱ or Type Ⅲ. 6) Giant cells appear increasingly after six rounds or more of irradiation; and in the cases given 12 rounds of irradiation they appear significantly more numerously in Type C according to the CPL classification while more significantly in Type Ⅰ according to Nagase's classification. The actions of irradiation on cancer tissue may be roughly divided into a direct action on cancer cells and an indirect action derived from the influences on the local interstitial tissues and on the systemic metabolism. However, it seems that the irradiadiation susceptivility first of all and subsequently the problem related the prognosis can be solved only when these direct and indirect actions are summarily studied. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=MiyakeMasaaki en-aut-sei=Miyake en-aut-mei=Masaaki kn-aut-name=三宅昌秋 kn-aut-sei=三宅 kn-aut-mei=昌秋 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部産科婦人科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2987 end-page=3000 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=A Study on the Irradiation Susceptibility of Cervical Carcinoma by Means of Vaginal Contents kn-title=膣内容による子宮頸癌の放射線感受性に関する研究 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=By giving preoperative roentgen-Irradiation treatment to 225 operable cases of cervical carcinoma, admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Okayama University Medical School, from August 1, 1956 to December 31, 1957, and later operated upon by Okabayashi's radical extensive hysterectomy, the author carried out the following observations: Namely, by observing changes in the T.P.T. cell count due to roentgen irradiation; the degree of changes in cancer tissue; and R.M. Graham's sensitization response and radiation reaction, and after studying mutual relationship of these, the author obtained the following results. 1. It seems possible to know the roentgen susceptibility of the cancer by observing the manner of the increase brought about by roentgen irradiation in T.P.T. cell count in the vaginal contents. 2. The sensitization response is in no way involved in the cancer-tissue change due to roentgen irradiation, and it seems that the sensitization response is not representing the roentgen susceptibility of the cancer. 3. Radiation reaction fluctuates well correspondingly with the cancer-tissue change brought about by roentgen irradiation, and it seems that the radiation reaction represents the roentgen susceptibility of the cancer. 4. The thrombocyte count decreased markedly in the vitamin C-deficient guinea pigs. 2. The megakaryocyte function in these vitamin C-deficient animals was markedly lowered as compared with that of the normal. 3. The lowered megakaryocyte function in the vitamin C-deficient guinea pigs could be brought back to the normal level by adding vitamin C 0.01 mg/c.c. directly to the medium. The first 10.cc. obtained by pneumoencephalography was taken as the lumbar spinal fluid (L) and the 10 cc. obtained after the first 100 cc was taken as the superior spinal fluid (V). 1. As for the wave form there is essentially no difference between the general paresis and schizophrenia, but the general paresis shows somewhat clearer two-step wave form in both L and V. The wave height in the general paresis is L > V, while that in the schizophrenia is L < V, showing an inverse relation ship. L/V in the general paresis is greater than 1.0 and in the schizophrenia less than 1.0. 2. Tropp's crossing point of L is 2.8 mg% and V 1.8 mg% in the schizophrenia while L is 1.3 mg% and V 0.8 mg% in the general paresis, showing a fairly lower value in the latter. 3. As for the reaction toward the urea denaturation generally in the general paresis N/D shows relation of L > V, while in the schizophrenia it is L < V, indicating a distinct difference in the filtrates of the spinalfluids between the two groups. 4. Vitamin B(12)at the concentrations of 10⁻⁴ g/dl and 10⁻⁵ g/dl seems to accelerate the respiration of the bone marrow, and especially at 10⁻⁴ g/dl the oxygen consumption every 10 minutes increases along with the lapse of time. 8. Vitamin C at the concentration 10⁻¹ g/dl inhibits the respiration of the bone marrow, but at the concentrations 10⁻³ g/dl and 10⁻⁴ g/dl promotes the respiration. From these it appears that FMN, FAD, vitamin B(6), nicotinamide, folic acid, vitamin B(12), and vitamin C at the appropriate concentrations act directly on the bone marrow as to promote its metabolism, and lead to the acceleration of the hematopoietic function. Particularly vitamin B(12) which demonstrated the periodical and gradual increase in the oxygen consumption every 10 minutes seems to posses a direct hematopoietic action on the bone marrow. kn-abstract= en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=ShimizuNorimitsu en-aut-sei=Shimizu en-aut-mei=Norimitsu kn-aut-name=清水紀光 kn-aut-sei=清水 kn-aut-mei=紀光 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2901 end-page=2912 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on the Oxygen Consumption and Glycolysis in Bone Marrow Tissue Part 2. The Effect of Suspension Solutions on the Oxygen Consumption of Rabbit Bone Marrow kn-title=骨髄の組織呼吸並びに解糖作用に関する研究 第2編 家兎骨髄の組織呼吸作用に及ぼす浮游液の影響 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=By suspending slices of bone marrow tissue of normal rabbit obtained from the femur in such solutions as Ringer's solution, Tyrode's solution or physiological saline solution, at pH 6.3, 6.8, 7.1, 7.4, 7.7 and 8.0, and by measuring oxygen consumption, the author studied the effect of suspension solutions on the respiration of the bone marrow. The results are as follows: 1. In Ringer's solution Q(o2) was highest, and stochastically there was significant difference in Q(o2) values in the case of the Tyrode's or the physiological saline solution. 2. The decreasing tendency in the oxygen consumption with lapse of time in the course of measuring was least in Ringer's solution, and likewise the variations in the average values of the maximum and the minimum Q(o2) were least in Ringer's solution. 3. As for the physiological saline solution at various ranges of pH, Q(o2) showed the greatest value at pH 7.4. Although there was no significant difference between the value at pH 7.4 and that at pH 7.1 stochastically, but there was significant difference between the value at pH 7.4 and those of other pH. Namely, pH 7.4 as the starting point, if the concentration leans either to acidic side or to alkaline side, Q(o2) tends to decrease, and moreover, the inhibition of Q(o2) is somewhat stronger on the acidic side than on the alkaline side. 4. In the physiological saline solution at various ranges of pH, the decreasing tendency of Q(o2) with the lapse of time is least at pH 7.1 ; and the rate of variations in the averages of the maximum and the minimum oxygen consumption is least at pH 7.7 ; and as the pH turns to more to alkaline side from this pH the decreasing tendency of Q(o2) is marked and also the increase in the rate of variation can be observed. In other words, for the determination of the respiration in bone marrow Ringer's solution is the most suitable one as the suspension solution; and it seems that the phosphate contained in the solution acts as to inhibit the respiration of bone marrow. And the optimal pH seems to lie in between pH 7.1 and pH 7.7 with pH 7.4 as an anchor concentration. Outside this range of pH the respiration of bone marrow is inhibited from the beginning and also the oxygen consumption decreases gradually along with the lapse of time. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=ShimizuNorimitsu en-aut-sei=Shimizu en-aut-mei=Norimitsu kn-aut-name=清水紀光 kn-aut-sei=清水 kn-aut-mei=紀光 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2885 end-page=2900 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on the Oxygen Consumption and Glycolysis in Bone Marrow Tissue Part 1. Comparative Studies on the Various Estimating Methods of Oxygen Consumption and Glycolysis in the Rabbit Bone Marrow kn-title=骨髄の組織呼吸並びに解糖作用に関する研究 第1編 測定方法に関する基礎的研究 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=By placing a piece of rabbit bone marrow between two Graefe's messes and slowly drawing the messes outward, the author successfully obtained slices of the proximal limit thickness; and by the aid of Warburg's apparatus the oxygen consumption and glycolysis in the bone marrow tissue were estimated. At the same time by mincing the bone marrow tissue of the same rabbit, the method generally used by most other investigators, the estimations were made as the comparison. In addition, observations were carried out on the effect of time elements dividing them into the five following groups according the length of elapsed time from the onset; Group A : Those measured immediately after killing. Group B : Slices made immediately after killing but kept at 37℃ for 2 hours. Group C : Slices made immediately after killing but kept at 37℃ for 4 hours. Group D : Bone marrow in the cylindrical form preserved for 2 hours at 37℃. Group E : Bone marrow in the cylindrical form preserved for 4 hours at 37℃. 1. The slice method of my own device yielded Q(o2) 4.90 ± 0.35 (the average of 28 samples), Q(O2M) 3.62 ± 0.27 (average of 18 samples), Q(N2M) 7.63 ± 0.37 (average of 18 samples). 2. On the basis of the maximum Q(o2) by the slice method the proximal limit thickness of slices of normal rabbit bone marrow is 0.67 mm. 3. By mincing method the injury to the cells of the bone marrow is greater. 4. The amount of oxygen consumption decreases in proportion to the lapse of time after killing, especially the oxygen deficiency induces an irreversible disturbance of the cell function, and thus it appears that a rapid decrease in Q(o2) due to this disturbance. 5. It is presumed that glycolysis, especially anaerobic glycolysis, tends to be affected relatively less by the lapse of time after killing, but that the discharge of glycolytic enzymes into the suspension and the decrease in the enzyme activity are unavoidable. Summing up the above data for measuring of the respiration and glycolysis of the rabbit bone marrow, this slice method is the most suitable one; and the determination should be carried out as soon as practicable at the fixed intervals after killing. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=ShimizuNorimitsu en-aut-sei=Shimizu en-aut-mei=Norimitsu kn-aut-name=清水紀光 kn-aut-sei=清水 kn-aut-mei=紀光 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2829 end-page=2884 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Absorption Activity of the Oral Mucosa kn-title=口腔粘膜の吸収能に就いて en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=By the use of trypan blue, i.e. lipoid insoluble acid stain, in order to make observation of absorption activity of the oral mucosa, animals' mucosa with rapid absorption activity, its location, absorbing process, and absorbing conditions were investigated. Then clinical and biological observation on absorption of hormone of the salivary gland was tried. Ⅰ. Mixture containing equal parts of 1 per cent solution of trypan blue and saturated sodium bicarbonate solution was dropped and painted over the normal oral mucosa of various kinds of animals, such as dog, cat, hamster, albino rat, chicken, elaphis virgatus, lizard, rana esculenta, eft, and crusian and absorption of the solution was observed. The results obtained were as follows: 1) Absorption varied according to the kinds of animals. 2) In general absorption of the lower verbetrata was more remarkable than that of mammals and birds. 3) In mammals that of dogs was more marked than that of cat, hamster and albino rat. 4) In dogs marked absorption was seen in buccal and sublingual mucosa, particularly at the sublingual and parotid salivary papillae and their surrounding areas. 5) In albino rats absorption was made at the hard palate corresponding to the tip of the tongue. Ⅱ. In premature dogs it was equal to that of mature dogs. Ⅲ. No absorption was seen in the oral mucosa of the dog's and rabbit's fetus, while slight one was seen around the erupted teeth of the guinea-pig's fetus. Ⅳ. T.B. was not introduced into the ep. cells of rabbit's oral mueosa in case of vital staining. Ⅴ. The effects of various factors on T.B. absorption of the oral mucosa in dogs' experiments were as follows: Absorption-stimulating factors are, local thermal stimulation, Grace helio lamp irradiation. roentgen irradiation of amount of 60 r to 100 r, radium irradiation of amount of 33 mg. h, to 66 mg. h., intracranial amputation of maxillary and mandibular divisions of trigeminal nerve just after the procedure. and local injection of Teabrom (T.E.A.B.), in the early stage of injection, while absorption-inhibiting factor was local cold stimulation and no absorption was stimulated in case of anemia of the head following ligation of the common carotid artery. Ⅵ. Parotin and Saliva-parotin, i.e. hormone of the salivary gland was painted over the oral mueosa of man, clog and rabbit. The results obtained were as follows: 1) Leucocytosis was noticed in cases of dog (1.2~5.0 mg./kg. of Parotin administered) and man (0.2~0.4 mg./kg. of Parotin or 0.1-0.2 mg./kg. of Saliva-parotin administered), 2) decrease of serum Ca. and leucocytosis in case of rabbit (1.0-5.0 mg./kg. of Parotin and Saliva-parotin administered), and 3) stimulated calcification of dentine in case of rabbit (5 mg./kg. of Parotin administered). These results Will suggest us the following factors as those effecting on absorbing mechanism of the oral mueosa, especially of the epithelium: 1) resistance, 2) intensity of surface tension, 3) intercellular density, 4) characteristics of chemical substances and solvent, and 5) special vital function of the cells. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=IdeiKiyoo en-aut-sei=Idei en-aut-mei=Kiyoo kn-aut-name=出井清雄 kn-aut-sei=出井 kn-aut-mei=清雄 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部歯科学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2817 end-page=2827 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Anaphylaxis and Oxidation-Reduction Potential Ⅱ: Effect of Antihistamine Drugs on Oxidation-Reduction Potential of Sensitized Animal Organ Tissues in in vitro Anaphylactic Shock kn-title=感作動物臓器組織の試験管内における過敏症の発現とその電位に就いて 第2編 臓器組織の過敏症ショックに於ける電位変化に及ぼす抗ヒスタミン剤の影響 en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract=The author studied the effect of the antihistamine drugs on the rise of the potential in in vitro anaphylactic shock. In clinical findings monocytic leukemia presented intermediate characters between those of the acute and the chronic types observable in other leukemias. 2. The wandering velocity of the neutrophils and monocytes in patients was lower than that in normal persons, and the span of cell-wandering in th former was shortened. 2. Phagocytosis of carbon particles of the neutrophils and monocytes in patients was decreased in comparison with that of the control. The time required for the phagocytosis of neutrophils in tissue culture to reach its peak is longer than that in the case of the control. The phagocytosis of the monocytes in patients gradually increased, making a similar curve as that of the control but a lower one, and both reached their peak in 24 hours. The peak of the former, however, was markedly lower. In addition, promonocytes occasionally showed very slight phagocytosis of carbon particles in the cases whose cell functions were not so markedly decreased. 3. As for the neutral-red vital staining the nutrophils and monocytes in patients were stained much more rapidly and more deeply but they fade very quickly as compared with those of the control. 4. From the above mentioned results, the author has confirmed the decrease in the cell functions of the bone marrow in monocytic leukemia. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=KawanoYoshihiko en-aut-sei=Kawano en-aut-mei=Yoshihiko kn-aut-name=川野嘉彦 kn-aut-sei=川野 kn-aut-mei=嘉彦 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部平木内科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2761 end-page=2771 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on Monocytic Leukemia by Means of Bone-Marrow Tisseu Culture Part 1. The rate of relative increase of the growth area fell down approximately to one third that of the control, but the cellular density in the growth area increased remarkably; and the boundary of the growth area was sharply defined from the surrounding area, indicating a marked acceleration of the cellular proliferative activity in this disease. 2. From the very characteristics of morphological findings, process of maturation, and superiority in numbers over other cellular series, in monocytic series appearing in the growth area, it is easy to make differential diagnosis of monocytic leukemia from other leukemias. 3. The juvenile type of the cells in monocytic series makes it possible to differentiate from other juvenile calls by the characteristic findings in morphology, thus enabling us to distinguish monocytic leukemia from other leukemias. 4. Therefore, the author performed the in vitro experiments, acute toxicity tests, and VM treatment against mouse tuberculosis, and obtained the following results. 1. VM solution at the concentration of 15.0 inhibits the growth of tuberculous bacilli, and it acts against SM-resistant strain identically as against the SM-susceptible strain. 2. However, VM used in combination with SM, INAH, or INHG, acts as to assist one another, while VM combined with PAS has no effect at all. 3. LD(50) of VM in the case of subcutaneous injection to mouse is 1,626 mg/kg (±157.64 mg/kg). 4. For the mouse berculosis the effect of VM alone is weak, while VM and SM nsed in equal amount separately the effect of VM is about one half that of SM alone. 5. The use of VM comb ned with INAH or INHG is super ro to the effect of VM used alone, showing no significant difference from that of INAH or INHG used alone thus proving the addition of VM is ineffective. The concentration at which Pza, acting alone, inhibits the growth of H(37)Rv strain proves to be 200 γ/1cc. 2. Pza and SM in combination act quite collaboratingly, but either one of these in combination with PAS has no effect inhibiting the growth of tuberculous bacilli at all. However, Pza in combination with INAH or INHG presents a multiple action assisting one another. 3. The therapeutic effect to experimental mouse tuberculosis of Pza (250 mg/kg) alone is inferior to that of INAH (50 mg/kg) or INHG (500 mg/kg) given separately. 4. The effect of the treatment with Pza (250 mg/kg) + INAH (50 mg/kg), or Pza (250 mg/kg) + INHG (500 mg/kg) is superior to that of INAH or INHG alone, but this effect is not so efficacious enough to be valued as a bacteriocidal treatment in vivo. Moreover, the combination of Pza with INHG is slightly inferior to the combination of Pza with INAH. 5. The use pf Pza (250 mg/kg) alone on the mouse tuberculosis induced by the infection of INAH-10-resistant strain gives hardly any therapeutic effect. 6. The combinations of Pza-INAH and Pza-INHG are effective for the treatment of mouse tuverculosis induced by the infection of INAH-10γ-resistant strain. The action the three drugs, INAH, IHMS, and INHG at the concentration of 0.2 inhibits the growth of the standard strain of human tuberculous bacilli. Moreover, the antiseptic power of these drugs against tuberculous bacilli is stronger than that of SM, PAS or Tbl. 2. The resistance of tuberculous bacilli against there three drugs is acquired step by step quite easily and the rapidity of the acquiring of such resistance in the case of INHG seems to be slightly more rapid than the other two. 3. For preservation of the titer of the medium practically four weeks are about the limit, and when storing at the room temperature, one should exercise an extreme care. The disintegration of the medium due to warming even for a long duration of time occurs to a lesser extent as long as the temperature is not kept high. 4. As for the effect inhibiting the growth of tuberculous bacilli, combined use of INAH and SM is clearly discernible, and the effect of INAH combined with PAS can be observable only when PAS is used in the concentration of over 0.5 γ. It was assumed from the data of the author and of other members in our department that if pregnant toxikosis turn to preeclampsia or eclampsia by getting worse, evacuation of a part of specific protein which had not been found before was found in adult serum. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=ItasakaTakuzi en-aut-sei=Itasaka en-aut-mei=Takuzi kn-aut-name=板阪卓児 kn-aut-sei=板阪 kn-aut-mei=卓児 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部法医学教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2701 end-page=2706 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on endemic polyradiculoneuritis (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) in the middle western part (Chugoku and Shikoku) of Japan. Regarding one recurrent case, it is considered that the individual got an imcomplete immunity and following reinfection, or he had sustained some accompanying neuro-allergic phanomen. 2. Some constitutional factors may be concerned to the pathogenesis of the twins and the three pairs of fraternal contraction. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=KatoYojiro en-aut-sei=Kato en-aut-mei=Yojiro kn-aut-name=加藤陽治郎 kn-aut-sei=加藤 kn-aut-mei=陽治郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2689 end-page=2700 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on endemic polyradiculoneuritis (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) in the middle western part (Chugoku and Shikoku) of Japan. Most of the cases had a sudden onset without fever. 2. Flaccid symmetrical motor paralysis was observed in all cases. The paralysis began at the lower extremities in 79% of all cases and was more marked at the distal part than the proximal. 3. The paralysis became most severe from 3 to 10 days after the onset of the disease and then showed a rapid recovery. Tendon reflexes, however, remained weak or disappeared for longer period even after the recovery of motor function. 4. Syndrome of posterior spinal nerve root irritation was characteristic and lasted for longer period. 5. The facial nerve was most frequently affected among the cranial nerves. 6. The pleocytosis in the spinal fluid was found in no case, but dissociatio albumino-cytologique was observed in 81.3% of all cases. 7. Nineteen cases (15.2%) died from acute bulbar paralysis. 8. Reinvestigation of 83 cases after 8 months to 6 years revealed complete cure of all cases except for one case with slight weakness of motor power. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=KatoYojiro en-aut-sei=Kato en-aut-mei=Yojiro kn-aut-name=加藤陽治郎 kn-aut-sei=加藤 kn-aut-mei=陽治郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2679 end-page=2688 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Studies on endemic polyradiculoneuritis (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) in the middle western part (Chugoku and Shikoku) of Japan. Part 1. Epidemiology kn-title=中国, 四国地方に流行した一多発性神経根炎(ギランバレー症候群)に関する研究 第1編 疫学に就て en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=Three hundred and seventeen cases of polyradiculoneuritis with Guillain-Barre syndrome (G.B. disease) (including 125 cases admitted to the pediatric clinic of the Okayama University Hospital) during the period from 1949 to 1955 were epidemiologically investigated. 1. The place of the most frequent occurrence was Minomicho, Numakuma-gun of Hiroshima Prefecture. Six cases were found there among 6406 residents (0.093%) 2. Regarding the age distribution, most of them were between 2 and 6 years of age. (The highest frequency of occurrence being at 4 years of age.) More patients were found in the farmer's or fisherman's families. Male patients were more than the female. 3. There was observed a tendency that the epidemy started at Okayama and moved gradually to the south-west. Epidemiological observation of the patients at Minomicho showed that this disease was obviously infectious. 4. More frequent occurrence was seen in July and August, i.e. the most moist and rainy season. 5. Constitutional factors may probably conceren the occurrence of this disease, 6. Incubation period is considered to be between 5 and 20 days. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=KatoYojiro en-aut-sei=Kato en-aut-mei=Yojiro kn-aut-name=加藤陽治郎 kn-aut-sei=加藤 kn-aut-mei=陽治郎 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部小児科教室 END start-ver=1.4 cd-journal=joma no-vol=70 cd-vols= no-issue=8 article-no= start-page=2673 end-page=2677 dt-received= dt-revised= dt-accepted= dt-pub-year=1958 dt-pub=19580831 dt-online= en-article= kn-article= en-subject= kn-subject= en-title=Free Amino- Nitrogen of the Brain Tissue Part 1 On the Amino- and Non-Protein-Nitrogen Contents in the Rat Brain kn-title=脳のアミノ窒素 第1編 ダイコクネズミ脳アミノ窒素および非蛋白窒素量について en-subtitle= kn-subtitle= en-abstract= kn-abstract=Amino- and non-protein- nitrogen in fresh rats brains under variously treated conditions were determined. Amino- nitrogen was measured by the copper method of Pope and Stevens, non-protein-nitrogen by the micro-Kjeldahl procedure. The results were as follows: 1) In the normal control group, the mean of amino-N contents was 36.8 mg%, ranged from 34.3~38.5 mg/%, and the mean of non- protein-N was 161.1 mg%, ranging from 140.3~184.1 mg%. 2) In the case of repeated electroshocked rats (twice daily, amounted to 20~30 times), both amino-N and non-protein-N showed no appreciable change. These were also almost normal in the group injected with methylpropamine repeatedly (60 mg/kg daily, for 3 weeks). 3) In the hypophysectomized rats, amino-N contents were slightly lower than in the normal group, while in the group injected with chlorpromazine (10 mg/kg daily for 3 weeks), appreciable decrease of the non-protein-N contents was found. In general, it can be concluded that the contents of amino-nitrogen as well as non-protein-nitrogen keep relatively constant levels by those above-menthioned treatments. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=YunoueShigeru en-aut-sei=Yunoue en-aut-mei=Shigeru kn-aut-name=湯之上茂 kn-aut-sei=湯之上 kn-aut-mei=茂 aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil= kn-affil=岡山大学医学部神経精神医学教室 END
