The Ohno continuous casting (OCC) process is a unidirectional solidification method, which leads to high-quality cast samples. In this study, the Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy was cast at casting speeds of 1 mm/s, 2 mm/s, and 3 mm/s, by the OCC process. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the casting process parameters, such as casting speeds and cooling conditions, on the crystallization characteristics and mechanical properties of OCC-Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy. Particularly, secondary dendrite arms spacing of alpha-Al dendrites in OCC samples significantly decreases with increasing casting speed. Moreover, the mean tensile strength of the samples, produced at the highest casting speed of 4.0 mm/s, is significantly higher than that for the samples produced at a casting speed of 1.0 mm/s. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=LeeYoon-Seok en-aut-sei=Lee en-aut-mei=Yoon-Seok kn-aut-name= kn-aut-sei= kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=MakinoYuya en-aut-sei=Makino en-aut-mei=Yuya kn-aut-name= kn-aut-sei= kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= en-aut-name=NittaJun en-aut-sei=Nitta en-aut-mei=Jun kn-aut-name= kn-aut-sei= kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=3 ORCID= en-aut-name=LeeEunkyung en-aut-sei=Lee en-aut-mei=Eunkyung kn-aut-name= kn-aut-sei= kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=4 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil=Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama University kn-affil= affil-num=2 en-affil=Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama University kn-affil= affil-num=3 en-affil=Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama University kn-affil= affil-num=4 en-affil=Department of Ocean Advanced Materials Convergence Engineering, Korea Maritime and Ocean University kn-affil= en-keyword=aluminum alloy kn-keyword=aluminum alloy en-keyword=casting speed kn-keyword=casting speed en-keyword=solidification kn-keyword=solidification en-keyword=Ohno continuous casting kn-keyword=Ohno continuous casting en-keyword=gravity casting kn-keyword=gravity casting en-keyword=dendritic spacing kn-keyword=dendritic spacing END
