Studies on the variation of R ⇄ S type of the Typhoid bacillus caused by Nucleic acid, Des-oxy-ribo-nucleic acid, Polypeptide and Polysaccharide extracted from the components of the body of Typhoid bacillus were made and reported of the following brief summary of the results. 1) When culturing Salmonellas 57R and 58R on synthetic media and by adding Nucleic acid, Des-oxy-ribe-nucleic acid, Polypeptide and Polysaccharide extracted from Salmonella 57S and Salmonella typhi Nakagawai, Nucleic acid, Des-oxy-ribo-nucleic acid and Polypeptide seemed to give some influence turning to the smooth type from the rough type of these two bacilli, although Polysaccharide showed no such influence. 2) When culturing Salmonellas 57R and 58R on plate synthetic media with addition of the said four substances, Nucleic acid, Des-oxy-ribo-nucleic acid and Polypeptide had similar influence as above has been shown, but except for Polysaccharide. 3) The shake culture of Salmonellas 57R and 58R on synthetic media, Nucleic acid and Des-oxy-ribo-nucleic acid gave the same influence, but Polypeptide and Polysaccharide had no effect. 4) By culturing Salmonellas 57R and 58R on basic synthetic media with addition of several Amino acids and above four substances, no influence could be seem in any combination of these substances.
