Abstract
日本三名園の一つに数えられている岡山後楽園には水車が回っている。他に水車のある日本庭園があるかどうか，あまり例を聞かない。何の為に水車があるのか？ 筆者はその水車に歴史的，心理的な光でなく，科学的な光を当ててみようとした。水車・底樋・手水鉢の三つの部品を組み合わせた日本初の新しい暑気払いの為の装置ではなかったのか，との発見をしたように思うので，ここで議論の材料として提出したい。詳細な内容については別途機会を得て提出する。
