Uric acid was measured in serum and urine of the ambulant and hospitalized patients with various disorders including gout. in Misasa-Branch Hospital of Okayama University Medical School from January 1975 to December 1976. Serum and urine samples were obtained from 283 males and 260 females, and from 2 males respectively. The results are as follws; (1) Uric acid in males was 1.4 mg/100mf higher than in females. (2) Uric acid in males decreased with ages, showing two peaks between 15 and19 , and between 35 and 44 years old. (3) Uric acid in females showed low levels between third and fifth decades and increased thereafter with ages. (4) There were many fatty subjects among the patients with gout. (5) An increase in total daily excretion of urinary uric acid was observed concomitantly with increased daily urine volume. (6) Periodical fluctuations of uric acid in serum and other clinical findings were show in several cases of gout, who had been controlled in MisasaBranch Hospital for several years.
