By bone-marrow tissue culture, the simple method of our own device, the author studied the carbon-particle phagocytosis and neutral-red vital staining of pseudoeosinophils in the bone marrow of normal rabbits, the rabbits with acute anemia by blood depletion, and the rabbits exposed to X-ray irradiation. As the results the author arrived at the following conclusions: 1. In the case of normal rabbits mature pseudoeosinophils in the bone marrow show a lower carbon-particle phagocytic capacity than that in the conventional method of culture, and the vital staining of mature pseudoeosinophils is deeper and reaches the maximum stain a little earlier than in the case of the conventional method, and the staining fades slowly. 2. In the case ob rabbits with acute anemia due to blood depletion the carbon-particle phagocytosis of mature pseudoeosinophils is always lower than that in the case of normal rabbits. The vital staining of mature pseudoeosinophils in this case takes place earlier and to a higher degree than in the case of normal rabbits. Moreover, their color fades quickly but these findings are quite similar to those of the conventional method of culture. Strictly speaking. these findings are slightly inferior to those of the conventional method. 3. In the case of rabbits irradiated with X-ray the carbon-particle phagocytosis of mature pseudoeosinophils is markedly lower than that in the case of normal rabbits throughout the culture. The vital staining of mature pseudoeosinophils in the bone marrow of rabbits takes place earlier and to a higher degree than in the case of normal rabbits, and also it fades very rapidly, clearly proving the decline of the function of pseudoeosinophils.
